Principal Points

Dear Roosevelt Families,

The countdown is on! It’s hard to believe we are already in the final weeks of the school year, with our last day of school quickly approaching on June 4. This time of year always brings so much excitement, energy, and celebration as we reflect on all the growth our students have made together.

We have a full lineup of field trips, end-of-year activities, learning celebrations, and special events coming up over the next few weeks. Please be sure to take a close look at the calendar below and any communication from your child’s teacher so you do not miss any important dates and events.

I am incredibly proud of our Tigers for wrapping up their i-Ready testing this week. Their growth, perseverance, and hard work throughout the year have been amazing to watch. From academic gains to social-emotional growth, our students have so much to celebrate. We hope they carry this momentum into the summer by continuing to read, practice skills, stay curious, and keep their learning stamina strong.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. These final weeks are some of the most memorable of the year, and we are looking forward to finishing the school year strong together!

With Tiger Pride,

Mrs. Samouelian

Let’s make it a Pawsome Week, Tigers! 🐾

2nd Annual Bubble Run Event 2nd Annual Bubble Run Event

We did it! Roosevelt Tigers completed enough miles to make it all the way to Hollywood! To celebrate this amazing accomplishment, we are excited to host our 2nd Annual Bubble Run on Wednesday, May 20th from 1:45–3:30 p.m.

All students who qualified are invited to participate in this fun event! Students will receive a pair of sunglasses and enjoy a Kona Ice treat after the run.

We are looking for volunteers to help make this event a success. If you are interested in helping, please sign up using the link below.

Grade level leaders will guide students to the Bubble Run area. Students will run for approximately 15 minutes before heading to the Kona Ice truck with their group. After enjoying their treat outside, students will return to class together.

Bubble fillers will help maintain the bubble machines and blow bubbles while students run around the track.

Disclaimer: This is a student only event during the school day. Unfortunately, we can not support spectators at this time. We can only accept volunteers. Please sign up using the sign up genius to volunteer. An i-chat must be completed prior to the event.

We appreciate your support in helping make this a fun and memorable event for our Roosevelt Tigers!

Notes from the LMC- Library Book Checkout

Book checkout is coming to an end for the school year. This week will be the last week to checkout books from the Roosevelt library so book collection can take place, and Mr. Pinta can get the books all inventoried. Please help your child return any overdue books to school. If unable to locate books, please replace with a new, exact copy or pay the cost of the book indicated on the overdue notice.

Any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Pinta at cpinta@livoniapublicschools.org

Disney movies are a great way to teach the character trait of reflection because students naturally connect to the characters, emotions, choices, and lessons. Reflection helps children think about their actions, feelings, growth, and decisions. Using familiar movies makes those conversations meaningful and engaging.

Here are some simple and effective ways to teach reflection through Disney movies in an elementary setting:

What Is Reflection? (Kid-Friendly Definition)

“Reflection means stopping to think about what happened, how we felt, what we learned, and what we might do differently next time.”

You can compare reflection to:

  • Looking into a mirror for your thoughts
  • Replaying a moment in your mind
  • Learning from experiences

Disney Movies That Work Well for Teaching Reflection

Inside Out

Reflection Theme:

Understanding feelings and learning from emotions.

Discussion Questions:

  • How did Riley’s feelings change throughout the movie?
  • What did Joy learn by the end?
  • Have you ever felt two emotions at the same time?
  • What can we learn from sad or difficult moments?

Reflection Activity:

“Feelings Reflection Wheel”
Students draw or write:

  • Something that made them happy
  • Something challenging
  • What they learned from it

Encanto

Reflection Theme:

Understanding strengths, pressure, and family relationships.

Discussion Questions:

  • Why did Mirabel feel different?
  • Did the family always understand one another?
  • What did Abuela realize at the end?
  • What makes YOU special beyond talents?

Reflection Activity:

“My Gift Beyond a Power”
Students reflect on:

  • Kindness
  • Creativity
  • Persistence
  • Friendship
  • Leadership

The Lion King

Reflection Theme:

Learning from mistakes and growing from the past.

Discussion Questions:

  • Why did Simba run away?
  • What did he learn about responsibility?
  • What does Rafiki mean when he says, “The past can hurt”?
  • How can mistakes help us grow?

Reflection Activity:

“Learning From Mistakes”
Students write or draw:

  • A mistake they learned from
  • What they would do differently now

Frozen II

Reflection Theme:

Growth, change, and self-discovery.

Discussion Questions:

  • How did Elsa change throughout the movie?
  • What does “Do the Next Right Thing” mean?
  • When have you had to be brave during uncertainty?

Reflection Activity:

“Next Right Thing”
Students reflect on:

  • A difficult moment
  • One positive choice they made

Moana

Reflection Theme:

Perseverance, identity, and courage.

Discussion Questions:

  • Why did Moana keep going even when things got hard?
  • What did Maui learn about himself?
  • How did Moana grow as a leader?

Reflection Activity:

“My Growth Journey”
Students reflect on:

  • Something hard they kept trying
  • A time they were brave
