About First Star
First Star Recycling processes recyclables from the City of Omaha’s residential single stream collection, businesses and communities throughout the Midwest. Omaha residents and businesses can also participate in the Hefty® ReNew® program by filling the orange bag with plastics packaging and other plastics that are hard to recycle. The facility includes mechanical sorting and processing of mixed recyclables, with select manual sorting. Also during the tour we will see the process that First Star is using to turn non-traditional plastics into plastic dimensional lumber. Omaha is one of the only facilities in the nation that collects and transforms materials under one roof.
