MAVERICK MESSENGER UPDATE
Messmore Families-
It has been a wonderful week of learning and connection at Messmore Montessori. Our focus has been on curriculum, meaningful learning experiences, and the peaceful education of grace and courtesy. We continue to emphasize not only what students learn, but how they learn, interact, and care for one another each day.
We also enjoyed a special visit from ST Math Penguin, bringing some extra excitement to our learning! Our Student Council added to the learning fun this week by hosting a BATTLE OF THE CANS, canned food drive, in celebration of the upcoming MSU vs. UofM game tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make it a spirited and meaningful event!
A quick reminder: Report cards will be available in PowerSchool after 4pm today. Please note that report cards cannot be access through the PowerSchool mobile app and must be viewed through the PowerSchool website on the district homepage.
Wishing all of our families a wonderful, restful weekend wishing a very Happy Diwali to those that celebrate! Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an important part of our school community. One team from day one!
Warmly,
Principal Ciacchella

💚🤍BATTLE OF THE CANS!💙💛
A very special thank you to our Student Council for hosting the BATTLE of the Cans for this week's upcoming rivalry game: Michigan vs. Michigan State! Students and staff donated canned goods to wear their proud colors! If the amount of donations raised in the picture below is correct, UofM will be the winner this weekend. We'll see! Good luck to both teams and thanks for participating!
❤️🤍💙CANDY COLLECTION FOR THE TROOPS!
A very special thank you to all our students and staff for bringing in their candy collections for OUR TROOPS! Thank you, STUDENT COUNCIL, for overseeing this wonderful project!! Look at all the candy!
🦴CKLA Learning Fun in 1/2!🦴
Mrs. Witek and Mrs. O'Brien's class had a little fun learning about the 5 body systems during their CKLA knowledge time. Students reviewed their learning with a Kahoot then enjoyed a boney treat!
🐧ST Math Champions!
Jiji, the inflatable ST Math Penguin, made a surprise visit to Messmore on Monday to congratulate children who have completed 25% of their ST math journey in the first quarter of our report cards. This penguin will visit periodically throughout the school year and you never know when Jiji will show up next! We love this encouraging and inspirational ST math penguin and look forward to celebrating more ST MATH CHAMPIONS in the future! Who will be CAUGHT DOING ST MATH next?
Peace-Self-Awareness
This week, our Mavericks will be focusing on Peaceful expectations and have shifted into the Grace and Courtesy for this November. We will focus on Cultural Awareness.

School Safety Update 2026-2027
Safety remains a priority for our school. Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
RAPTOR VOLUNTEER INFO.
Districtwide Initiative-NEW RAPTOR BACKGROUND CHECK!
We are asking for your support to help keep our students safe.
- All visitors to the classroom areas of our school are now being asked to swipe their driver’s license or government issued ID before entering the main part of our building. This swipe will quickly provide an updated check against national sex offender registries. This process is for anyone who is going past our school office for any reason.
- If you are planning to volunteer in our classrooms or work directly with a student, you will need to have a volunteer background form on file. The form is located at this link. The background check involves multiple state and federal law enforcement data bases.
