Dear Doyon Families,
Another fantastic week has wrapped up at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School! As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences for our students.
This week, our third-grade students enjoyed an exciting and enriching trip to the Museum of Science in Boston. They were enthusiastic, curious, and eager to explore the many hands-on exhibits, making it a truly memorable experience for everyone involved. Our kindergarten students also had a wonderful adventure, venturing to Appleton Farms for a special day filled with learning and exploration. A big thank-you to our third-grade and kindergarten teaching teams for organizing these meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
Looking ahead, we invite families to join us next week for School Council, which will take place by Zoom beginning at 5:30 PM. Following, FRIES will meet to discuss upcoming initiatives and plan additional opportunities to support the continued growth of our school community. We hope youβll consider attending and sharing your voice.
Please note that school will be closed on Monday, January 19th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We encourage families to take time to discuss the significance of this day with their children. This important topic will also be explored here at school.
As you review the remainder of this newsletter, youβll find several upcoming events and opportunities to stay connected. We look forward to seeing many of you around our school community. As always, please donβt hesitate to reach out if you need anything. We are here to help!
Warmly,
Mr. Whitehouse-Mullen & Mrs. Benincasa

Grade Five Fundraiser
Hello 5th Grade Families,
5th graders will have many special and memorable activities throughout the year. In order to provide the best experience for our kids as possible, fundraising needs to start NOW! You are receiving a "Fill the 5" for our first fundraising effort. This is not a school sponsored fundraiser, and participation is voluntary, but we hope you can help us out!
What should I do?
Take a picture of the "5" shown below and post it on social media, and/or ask friends, families, and/or coworkers for a small donation. Every little bit helps! Any donations collected through our Zeffy link will go to a fund FRIES has set aside for our 5th graders. Use and share the QR code to start filling your 5.
Write the name of each person who gives a donation in each puzzle piece when they have donated one of the amounts. Hopefully each 5th grader can collect enough donations to βfill the 5β! We will be collecting donations through January 23rd.
Thank you for your support!

Doyon CARES
S is for Self-Control!
During January, we are focusing on self-control. At Doyon, we define self-control as the ability to manage your thoughts, words, emotions and actions.
Thinking about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I find so many easy connections with the CARES skills we learn at school. As you spend time this weekend as a family, thinking and talking about Dr. King and the reason we have a holiday on Monday, consider using CARES language. How did Dr. King Cooperate? Use Assertion? Take Responsibility (and encourage others to do so)? Show Empathy? And use Self-Control?
Library News!
We have some exciting library events coming up in February! The book fair, brought to you by the Book Shop of Beverly Farms, will run the week of February 2nd. If you are interested in volunteering for the book fair, please sign up here. On Monday, February 9th, author and illustrator, Juana Martinez-Neal will be visiting our school. Thank you to FRIES for supporting this program. More information about both events will be sent home in upcoming weeks.
The library will be open to students on Friday mornings from 8:00-8:40! Students can come to the library before school to read, draw, play with Legos, code, or work on a STEAM project. If your child would like to attend, please sign up below. Space is limited to 12 students per week.
Reach out to Teresa Hohenstein at thohenstein@ipsk12.net with any questions.
School Safety
Curious about school safety procedures? Take a peek at the documents displayed below. These documents are shared with students at the start of the school year by Detective Joe Perna, our School Resource Officer. The documents may serve as a guide to support families in discussing school safety. As always, please be in touch with questions around school safety at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School.

Nurse's Notes
Hello Doyon Families and Welcome back!
I hope you all had a wonderful, restful, and healthy break!
Just a reminder that students should not come to school if they are feeling ill. This includes not only fevers, but also deep/uncontrollable coughing, diarrhea/vomiting, rash of unknown origin, and severe sore throat and/or headache. Please remember to use Dismissal Manager or call the school to let us know your child will be absent. It is always helpful to send in a doctor's note if your child was seen.
We are seeing so much illness in the community as well as the country. Remember that flu can present with abdominal pain/nausea/vomiting as well as fever, sore throat, headache, congestion/cough, body aches. The biggest thing to watch for is secondary infection, especially pneumonia.
Students may return when they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and generally feeling better. The COVID guidelines are similar: Students may return when fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol/Motrin and generally feeling better, plus it is recommended when they return to activity to take extra precautions for five days including: mask wearing, physical distancing when possible, and good hand/cough hygiene.
