It is almost show time! Westfield Area High School/Middle School proudly invites you to see our Choir Department's production of Beauty and the Beast. Rehearsals for the production began in mid-August, where students learned all of the music and choreography being performed in the show. They have been rehearsing each day before or after school, and on some weekends to polish the music and dancing, and work on their blocking/acting in the show. Several students have the privilege of understudying a lead or supporting role.

We are excited to show off the hard work of our incredibly talented and dedicated students. There will be five performances of the show.. Showtimes for all shows are listed below.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and $4 for students grades K-12, with admission for the understudy show being free. Tickets will be available at the door or online at http://wasdmusic.booktix.net/. If you have any questions, please email Madelaine Trewin at madelaine.trewin@westfieldpioneers.org

End of First Quarter End of First Quarter

The last day of the first quarter is Friday, November 1st. Students do not report to school on Monday, November 4th, as this is an inservice & grading day for teaching staff. Teachers finalize first quarter grades on Monday and parents should check Skyward starting on Wednesday, November 13th to view their child's first quarter report cards. We do not mail home quarterly report cards, as these can be viewed through Skyward Parent Access. We do mail home report cards at the end of the first semester and second semester. If you need assistance with your Skyward Parent Access, please contact the HS/MS Office at 608-296-2141.

Our annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM in the Varsity Gym on Monday, November 11th. As a school, we gather every year to honor the men and women who have served our great country. It is important for our students to learn of the many sacrifices borne by our Veterans to ensure our freedom and way of life. Additionally, we recognize and thank the staff members who have spent time in service to our country.

ACT Prep: Coming Soon! ACT Prep: Coming Soon!

zoom_out_map
We are gearing up for another season of ACT Prep with our Junior class. We utilize “On to College with John Baylor” to fully prepare our students for the statewide ACT Exam. Starting on January 2nd, students attend ACT Prep sessions every day during Flex. The prep sessions run from January 2nd until March 24th, which is the day before the ACT exam.

The prep sessions consist of video lessons taught by John Baylor, followed by quizzes and activities that correlate with the video lesson. The lessons cover English, Math, Science, Reading, and Writing. By the end of the ten-week course, students have covered all topics they will encounter on the exam and take the equivalent of three full ACT practice examinations.

In January, we adjust our daily schedule by starting school one minute early, extending the school day by four minutes, and shortening each class period by one minute in order to create a 45-minute Flex Period at the end of the day for the students to get to their test prep rooms and engage in their prep lessons. Juniors are unavailable for any kind of Flex Offerings (besides ACT Prep) from January through March 24th. Our implementation model has been highly successful and we have received national recognition for how we prepare our students for this exam. Out of the 450+ high schools in the nation that use On to College with John Baylor, Westfield High School is ranked #1 in terms of student growth.

We devote a great deal of time & energy to our ACT Prep program because all juniors are required by the State of Wisconsin to take this exam. The ACT score is the standard by which we are judged, so we take every necessary step possible to make sure our students are fully prepared for success. On to College with John Baylor is a highly successful test prep program, and we are proud of how well our students perform on the exam. Last year, Westfield students improved their ACT score by an average of 2.8 points as compared to their predicted scores! This increase is extremely significant and is the reason why Westfield High School consistently has the highest ACT scores in the South Central Conference.

Something very exciting is the high number of Westfield High School students who earn a spot in the "30+ Club." These are students who earn a composite score of 30 or above on the exam, which is an incredibly difficult score to attain. In fact, students who score a 30 on the exam score higher than 95% of all test takers in the United States! To recognize this incredible achievement, we recently installed our 30+ Club recognition board and student banners in our school cafeteria. Additionally, we installed a recognition plaque to commemorate Isaac Mades' perfect score of 36 on the ACT Exam in 2013. Isaac is the only student in the history of Westfield High School to attain a perfect score, and was only 1 of 700 that year to earn a perfect score. One of the reasons our high school report says our school "Significantly Exceeds Expectations" is due to our students' strong performance on the exam and the number of Westfield students who make their way into the 30+ Club!

National Honor Society National Honor Society

Academically eligible students are in the process of completing their National Honor Society applications. Students with an honors level cumulative grade point average are able to apply to the Pioneer Chapter of the NHS by completing a rigorous application process. Applications are due by 3:32 PM on November 1st.

After the application deadline has passed, the five member Faculty Selection Committee convenes to assess each candidate's application and determine selection or non-selection. Judges assess candidates on three criteria: Character, Leadership, and Service. After new members are selected, we hold a formal induction ceremony and catered dinner to celebrate our inductees. Existing NHS members transform the Westfield High School/Middle School LMC into a beautiful venue for the ceremony. This year's National Honor Society induction ceremony and dinner will be held in the Westfield High School/Middle School LMC on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 PM.

Election Year Citizenship Lesson Election Year Citizenship Lesson

Juniors and Seniors recently met in the Auditorium during Flex for a presentation by the High School Social Studies Department about election information, voter registration, and the voting process.

This session was an informational refresher about the lessons students learned in their 10th grade American Government class. Mr. Briggs, Mrs. Alcorta, and Mrs. Nemitz-Walters talked to the students about the electoral college process, helped students learn how to register to vote, had students identify their polling locations, and showed them a sample ballot.
