A Message From Dr. Righi A Message From Dr. Righi

Spring is a wonderful time of year. Seedlings are starting to poke out of the ground and flowers stand ready to bloom. Everything smells fresh and the warm days are welcomed by all of us.

This time of year is special in high schools as well. Activities amp up as everyone gets ready for the end of another school year. Awards programs and special events line our calendar of activities, culminating with Commencement on Friday, June 16.

I hope to see you at one of our many upcoming activities. Whether it's on the athletic field watching our athletes do their best, in our auditorium listening to our music groups perform, or some other event such as the Talent Show, you will always see our students trying their best and striving for excellence. It is truly exhilarating watching our students bloom!

Welcome Spring!

Peer Leaders: Kickball Tournament at Toms River East High School

Many of our Peer Leaders have been working hard during their Physical Education class to promote social inclusion at Wall High School. They are preparing for a kickball tournament at Toms River East High School on May 16th. This tournament is through Unified Sports, which is an offshoot of Special Olympics that is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Pre-Med Club: Liberty Science Center Field Trip

Students from the Pre-Med Club (plus some students from the Anatomy & Physiology Honors and AP Biology classes) went on a field trip on March 3rd to the Liberty Science Center to attend the Meet the Surgeon: Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery session. Dr. Samara Friedman, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, showed the students film footage of two surgeries that she performs: the repair of a Monteggia fracture in the forearm, and the replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee with a patellar tendon graft. During the session, students asked Dr. Friedman about the procedures she performed and about her career in medicine.

Heroes & Cool Kids: Class Lessons to the Elementary Schools

During the month of April our Heroes and Cool Kids have been conducting their final lesson for the year in the 5th grade elementary school classes. This visit focuses on the five most dangerous words, "Everyone else is doing it", healthy ways to deal with stress, and peer pressure related to making good choices. They also answer any questions the 5th grade students might have about the transition to WIS and WHS!
