MES WeeklyScoopIt's a great day to be a Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!
If we reflect on our own education, most of us can probably remember our elementary teachers. We can most certainly remember our favorite teacher, and why they were our favorite. But, how many of us can remember that math assignment, or that worksheet, or that state assessment test. This is because relationships are what matters.

A great teacher is not a great teacher because of the content they know. They are a great teacher because of the relationships they can foster with their students. Great teachers can use that relationship to inspire students to learn. Teaching is not easy and these skills are not inherent to teachers. Sure they have some natural talents, but they work very hard with their students to develop these relationships. Teachers suffer emotionally when their students struggles. They take it home with them. They think of their students all the time and how they can improve their learning. MES is full of great teachers. Please thank them when you can.

School Dismissal

I want to thank everyone for the smooth transition to the new dismissal system. We have received a lot of positive feedback from parents and we appreciate that. We could immediately recognize the improvement of traffic on the south side and with our bus students. This was the most hazardous area. With the increase in traffic on the north and east sides, please be cautious with students crossing the streets. Thank you all for supporting our efforts to improve safety for all our students.

SAFETY PATROL

WE HAVE A SAFETY OFFICER TO PATROL THE SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING DISMISSAL AND STUDENT PICK-UP TIME. TRAFFIC (VEHICLE SPEED, ETC.) AND CROSSWALKS WILL BE AN EMPHASIS. THE DISTRICT IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE SAFEST ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

Counseling Connection

October is National Bullying Awareness Month and something that we bring awareness to at MES. At the classroom level, the teachers switch out their typical Second Step SEL for the Bullying Prevention curriculum. This unit teaches students how to recognize, report, and refuse bullying. In addition, I will incorporate bullying prevention into my lessons starting next week. It's important that students are able to recognize the difference between peer conflict and bullying, and that they understand how to prevent and report bullying if it occurs. We also encourage students to model acceptance, kindness, and inclusion inside and outside of the school.
