A Note from the Principal

We're so proud of how our students have jumped into their learning with real enthusiasm these past few weeks. Our teachers are hard at work getting to know each child and shaping instruction to fit their individual needs. Regular attendance throughout the school day is one of the best ways to make sure your child gets the full value of everything we're teaching.

We know evenings can get busy with after-school activities, but staying connected to what's happening in the classroom really does make a difference. A quick look through your child's binder each night, a conversation about their day, and a little time spent on homework together go a long way toward reinforcing what they're learning with us.

If you ever have questions about your child's progress or want to set up time to talk, please reach out to their teacher directly, we're always happy to connect.

We're looking forward to a fun-filled October at LCE, with the Big Kahuna Fundraiser, Unity Day, Red Ribbon Week, and our always-popular Storybook Character Parade all on the calendar!

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. E-mail is the fastest way to get to me, and my e-mail address is sstjohn@lcmcisd.org.

A Note from the Counselor

Hi LCE Families!

October is going to be a busy and exciting month in the LCE Counseling Program! Here’s a look at what our Cub's will be learning and participating in this month.

🧠 October Counseling Lessons
During classroom counseling lessons this month, we will focus on bullying, conflict, and mean moments. Students will learn how to tell the difference between these situations, what they can do when a problem happens, and when it is important to ask an adult for help.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Our October 7 Habits focus is Habit 5 — “Listen Before You Talk!”

We will practice being good listeners, trying to understand how someone else feels, and using our words to communicate respectfully.

Caught Using the Habit!
Teachers will continue watching for students who put our monthly habit into action! Students “caught” using Habit 5 can earn a Habit Ticket, add it to our cafeteria bulletin board, and be recognized for showing great leadership at LCE.

Kindergarten Lunch Bunch
Our first Kindergarten Lunch Bunch begins this month!

October 6, October 13 & October 19

Lunch Bunch is a small-group opportunity held during students’ regular lunch period, so students do not miss classroom instruction. We will work on friendship and social skills through age-appropriate conversations and activities.

Students selected have been sent a consent form through parent square; to participate I must have parent/guardian permission.

Unity Day — October 21
LCE will recognize Unity Day as we encourage our Bears to choose kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to stand together against bullying.

Red Ribbon Week — October 26–30
We will finish out the month celebrating Red Ribbon Week with fun spirit days and age-appropriate conversations about making healthy, safe choices!

Bear Buddy Mentoring
Our Bear Buddy Mentoring Program will begin the week of October 12! Bear Buddies gives participating students an opportunity to build a positive relationship with a caring mentor who can encourage and support them throughout the school year.

Bear Bites & Family Assistance
Our Bear Bites weekend food program continues throughout the school year. The counseling office also helps connect families with resources such as Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance, jackets, shoes, and other needs as opportunities become available.

If your family's circumstances change during the year and you could use some extra support, please reach out. All requests are handled as privately and respectfully as possible.

I’m looking forward to another great month of helping our LCE Cubs grow, connect, and learn!

October is here, and we are kicking off another month of attendance fun at Little Cypress Elementary! We know that every school day matters, and being at school consistently gives our students the opportunity to learn, grow, build friendships, and be part of everything happening at LCE.

Throughout the month of October, we will have Random Attendance Days! On these surprise days, students who are at school and on time will receive a special prize or fun incentive. 🎉🎁

Think: Water balloon your principals? Dance parties? Extra recess? Bear Bucks? The options are endless!!

The best part? You won’t know which days are Random Attendance Days! 👀 Students will need to be here each day to have a chance to participate.

Our goal is to encourage our Bears to make school attendance a priority and to celebrate students who are showing up and ready to learn. Whether it’s a small surprise, a special treat, or another fun incentive, we want our students to know that being present pays off! 🐻⭐

Storybook Character Parade and Fall Parties

EVENT DETAILS:

Friday, October 30th, LCE will host our Storybook Character Parade followed by class fall parties. The parade begins at 9:00. After the parade ends, students and parents will go back to the classrooms for the party. We invite you to attend the parade and your child's party. To attend, please see the information below about registration. Each student can have one or two guests attend the parade and party. Doors will open at 8:45. Visitors who have a pre-printed tag will enter through the cafeteria.

*We realize that parents may have multiple children on campus. Unfortunately, since we will have our parade, parties will all take place at the same time because the parade is the same time for all students.

EVENT REGISTRATION:

For the 2026-27 school year, Little Cypress Elementary is requiring ID checks for large school events. Therefore, we are requesting families to pre-register for large school events. For these events, two family members may register to attend per child. Visitors must be listed in the child's Skyward emergency contacts.
A new registration form will be used for each event. The registration form will be sent on Parent Square on October 12th. Please click the link to enter your information to pre-register for this event. One form will be filled out with both visitors' names. This form must be filled out by October 23rd to pre-register.
If you pre-register, your Raptor ID sticker will be sent home with your child before the event. In order for this to work, you will need to get your ID scanned in the front office before the registration deadline. If you do not receive your tag by the day before the event, please reach out to the front office at 409-886-2838.
If you do not have a Raptor ID sticker on the day of the event, you will be required to go to the front office to get your ID scanned. Please expect a long line.

Important: If you have multiple children on campus (or at LCI), they are unable to attend their sibling's parties. You may check out all of your students at one time in the front office once all of their parties are over.

GT Nominations

Nominate Your Child for G/T

Parents who would like to nominate their child for the Gifted & Talented program may complete the nomination form here:

G/T Nomination Form:
https://forms.gle/5tp4ohWc21FTJBAQ6

Kindergarten nominations are due by December 18.
1st–3rd grade nominations will be accepted through March.

Please note: A separate form for PLUS Class nominations will be sent at a later date.

How Are Students Identified?

The G/T identification process uses multiple sources of information to ensure students are assessed fairly. The process includes consideration for students with special needs, including students who are culturally diverse, economically disadvantaged, or have disabilities.

At least three qualitative and/or quantitative measures are used during the identification process. These may include:

  • NNAT3

  • TABS

  • MCLASS

  • MAP

  • Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

  • Student products or planned lessons

  • District end-of-year scores

  • Academic progress

  • Other appropriate assessment data

Once all required screening information has been collected, a student profile will be completed for each nominated student. Blind profiles will then be reviewed by the campus Admissions-Review-Exit (ARE) Committee, which will make placement decisions.

Placement Timeline

Kindergarten: Admission decisions will be made by February 26.

1st–2nd Grade: Admission decisions will be made after final screening information is completed in May.

For the complete Elementary Gifted & Talented Plan, visit LCE.LCMCISD.ORG and select Campus Documents.

Here's your chance to anonymously shower our LCE staff with the praise they deserve! Submit a shoutout to any team member who's made your kiddo's day (or saved your sanity). DROP OFF:

LCE students should be dropped off between 6:50 - 7:10 a.m. The tardy bells rings at 7:15 a.m. and instruction begins at 7:20 a.m.

Self-Contained (Life Skills) and second grade students can be dropped off at the front of the school in the mornings. Everyone else will need to be dropped off in the back.

Parents with both LCI and LCE students may drop their LCE student off in the LCE or LCI car line between 6:50 - 7:10 a.m. After 7:10, all LCE students are to be dropped off at the LCE campus.

For safety reasons, please have your child ready to exit the vehicle on the passenger side. Please talk to your child about what it means to be ready to exit the vehicle. Please also stress to them not to run but to walk safely.

Once the back doors are closed, you will need to drive to the front of the school, park, and escort your child into the building.

TURN RIGHT when exiting Meeks during drop off and pick up hours.

For the safety of your child and others, please do not use your cell phone while in the car drop off and pick up lines.

PICK UP:

The dismissal car line begins at 2:50 p.m.

Students cannot be checked out through the front office after 2:30 p.m. as we are in our final transition for the day. We will ask you to join the pick up line at that point.

The pick up line will run a little long for a few days, but after we get into the routine, it normally ends right at 3:10 p.m.

Please ensure that you are in line to pick up your child by 3:10 p.m.

If your child needs assistance to buckle, please pull ahead into the grassy area.

THE SCHOOL ISSUED CAR RIDER TAG MUST BE VISIBLE IN ORDER TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD. THIS IS A SAFETY MEASURE.

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication at LCMCISD called ParentSquare. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with LCMCISD. It provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to:

  • Send and receive school and class information

  • Share pictures and files

  • See calendar items

  • Sign up to volunteer

  • Schedule parent-teacher conferences

  • and much more . . . all in one centralized place!

Parents—Getting Started Video

All district and school, grade level and classroom information for next school year will be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text. For even more convenience, download the ParentSquare app (available for free for iOS and Android devices).

Have questions? Click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.

We are asking parents to go ahead and download the ParentSquare app to be ready for next school year!
