Thank You All for Great First Week!
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
Thank you to the families, students, staff, and the entire community for making our return to school for the 2026-2027 school year safe, smooth, and successful. See below for some of the pictures from our first week of classes in the district. As our entire Shoremen and Shoregals school family gets back into the swing of things, a few reminders and announcements of early and high achievement are included below.
ALHS Earns High Recognition from U.S. News & World Report
Congratulations to Avon Lake High School, who once again earned the notable recognition by U.S. News and World Report for being among the best high schools in the region, State of Ohio and beyond. Earning a #1 ranking in Lorain County, Avon Lake High School also achieved a #10 ranking in the Cleveland Metropolitan area, #36 in the State of Ohio, and #899 in the entire country. By earning a national ranking in the top 40%, Avon Lake High School achieved status as a U.S. News Best High School. Such a high level of merit and recognition for Avon Lake High School demonstrates the talent and hard work of our students, our families, and the teachers and staff at not only the High School, but all buildings in our entire district. Congratulations, once again!
ALHS Senior Jack Erdmann Perfect on ACT
Jack Erdmann, a senior at Avon Lake High School, was recently informed that he scored a perfect composite 36 out of 36 on the ACT exam earlier this summer. This incredible accomplishment demonstrates Jack’s high intelligence in a variety of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, and Reading, along with time management skills. If you see Jack, make sure you congratulate him on this rare and high achievement.
Important Reminders: Parent Supervision, Student Seating at Home Football Games
We hope to see everyone at tonight's home football game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. In order to help with a positive and safe experience for all, please keep this information in mind!
- Students in grades PreK–6 must sit with their parents in the home stands.
- Students in grades 7 and 8 will remain in the bleachers in the West Endzone.
- Once a student leaves the game area, re-entry will not be permitted.
Additionally, per district policy, all e-Bikes with a throttle are not permitted on campus. See this important information below! Thank you for your understanding and for your support in ensuring the safety of all students and attendees at tonight's football game!
Avon Lake City Schools Policy Regarding E-Bikes
Please note as a reminder, all e-bikes equipped with a throttle are prohibited from school campuses. The district policy adopted last fall has helped enhance safety and minimize dangerous situations on, or around, our buildings and grounds. Accordingly, any e-bikes found on campus will be confiscated, students will need to meet with school administration, and parents will be contacted. In partnership with the Avon Lake Police Department, the district has also provided the following e-bike traffic laws notice for reference. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue.
Join PTA! Membership Links Below.
Each of the Avon Lake City Schools has a Parent Teacher/Staff Association (PTA) that is very active, and which works closely with the district, parents, and community of Avon Lake.
Please consider joining the PTA associated with the school that your child attends. If you have students in multiple buildings, it is best to join each building. Joining PTA is a great way to get involved and to help support the teachers, staff, students and community! For your convenience, below is a link to each school’s PTA membership.
2026-2027 All Sports Passes Available for K-12 Students in ALCS
