SCS SUPERINTENDENT DECISION MAKING FOR CALAMITY DAYS

In addition to the calamity day information on our website, please make note of this decision making as it relates to calamity days:

  • If the forecast is calling for snow or ice, Dr. Ryba will predominantly make the decision in the morning due to the variability of weather.

  • If the forecast is calling for cold temperatures, Dr. Ryba will predominantly make the decision the night before due to the predictability of temperatures staying consistent.

The overall goal is to provide enough notification that gives our District stable information to make a sound decision, and parents as much time as possible to make plans should school be cancelled.

2026-27 KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

Registration for incoming kindergarten students is NOW OPEN. See the informational flyer below. More information can also be accessed HERE.

PLEASE NOTE: New legislation has changed the eligible age for kindergarten entrance to include any student who turns five years old on or before our start date of August 18th. Previously students needed to be five years old by August 1st.

Help support this year's Blood Cancer United (formally Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) Student Visionaries. This year’s Student Visionaries team from Strongsville High School is being led by Anna Placeway, Emily Polo, and Eric Dubsky. The Student Visionaries of the Year program is a philanthropic youth leadership initiative in which high school students compete to raise funds for blood cancer research, advocacy, and support. Student leaders form a team and fundraise in honor of blood cancer survivors. They have created an amazing team, "Mustangs For A Cure" to help them reach a goal of raising $150,00 for Blood Cancer United. They have from January 23rd March 13th to accomplish this task! This year’s team has already been working hard to network with local business leaders, but in order to reach this goal it’s going to take the support of our entire community! How can you help?

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. JENA SKINNER, SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST - EARLY LEARNING PRESCHOOL

Mrs. Jena Skinner started her career in education with an internship in Strongsville. Mrs. Skinner was hired by our District for the 2015-16 school year. She has worked at Muraski and Chapman Elementary Schools and is currently the School Psychologist at our Early Learning Preschool. With three young children at home, Mrs. Skinner is “walking the same journey” and has the perspective of both an educator and parent to guide her work. Mrs. Skinner earned her undergraduate degree from Temple University and her graduate degree from John Carroll University.

“Some of the best parts about working with students is watching their curiosity and their love of school grow. I love seeing their excitement and how they interact and learn. They ask the best questions, say the funniest things, and their smiles are truly contagious. In my role, I often get to follow students throughout the years and it's such a sweet privilege seeing the incredible growth they make!”

“I love the people I’m surrounded by every day - the students, families, and my SCS team. I often work with families during times that are overwhelming or emotional, and I love being part of that home-school collaboration. I'm blessed with a supportive and knowledgeable team who truly love our students and I enjoy collaborating with them. However, the best part will always be connecting with the students - learning about them and listening to their stories while trying to piece together their strengths and needs so we can better understand and support them.”

Thank you Mrs. Skinner for working with our “Mini-Mustangs” at the preschool and providing solid foundations for their educational journey!
