Hello Centerview families!
It has been a very positive start to the 2026–27 school year!
I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing, from start to finish each day, how our students, staff, and families have brought such positivity and enthusiasm to the beginning of this new school year. As we start each day, students and staff are reacquainting themselves with one another while also building new relationships and connections throughout the day. It’s been FUN!
Everyone seems at ease as they settle into new schedules and routines while sharing their hopes and dreams for the school year ahead. It has been wonderful to see our school community embracing these early days with such energy, patience, and optimism. Yes, I’m sure your kiddos are exhausted once they arrive home.
In these first days, we have been grateful for everyone involved in our family drop-off and pick-up procedures as we all build an understanding of how we will operate during arrival and dismissal. You have shown patience and appreciation for one another while keeping in mind that safety is our number one priority.
Thank you for having your kiddos prepared, ready, and excited to begin each day! We are truly fortunate as a staff to partner with such supportive families as we work together to encourage our students and create a positive start to each day. Your partnership makes a difference, and I know it will help make this a wonderful school year for our students, families, and staff!
Please remember there is no school on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. We’ll see everyone back at school on Tuesday, September 8 after the long weekend.
Reach out to your child’s home-based teacher or the office if you have any questions or need clarification.
Enjoy the long weekend coming up!
Take care,
Mike
Universal Screening Assessments
During the first months of school, all students participate in universal screening assessments. These assessments measure things like reading (e.g., DIBELS, Capti), math (e.g., MAP), and social, emotional, and behavioral development (e.g., SAEBRS). They provide valuable information to teachers to better understand each student's strengths and learning needs. Find more information on our website about Assessments.
Planning to attend a game or match at Spring Lake Park High School this fall?
We're excited to see you. For ticketed events, you can purchase tickets online in advance or at the door. Here are a few things to know:
- Like many other schools in the area, we are following best practice protocols for security at large events. All spectators will be subject to bag check and search just as you would at any large sporting event. For some fall events we are partnering with Best Security at entrances, and you may see their uniformed staff helping at entrances.
- There are no backpacks, balls, skateboards/bikes, inappropriate signs allowed.
- All students in grades 8 and younger must be accompanied by a supervising adult. All school rules apply.
- New digital scoreboards are coming online over the course of the fall in Panther Stadium, Panther gym and on the softball and baseball fields. In partnership with a group of community fundraisers, we were able to move forward with installation over the summer. Learn more about sponsorship opportunities and check out the scoreboards at an upcoming game.
Attendance Matters!
Regular attendance is key to student success. Missing just two days a month can negatively affect progress, especially in reading and long-term goals like high school graduation. We know there are times a student will need to be absent. Our goal is to work with parents and guardians to help their children have consistent – and on-time –attendance. Let’s work together to keep our students learning!
Is your student under the weather? Visit the Attendance & Absences page to find helpful tips of when to keep them home and when to send them to school. This page also has resources if you or your student need additional help.

New School Year, New Beginnings
A fun way to wrap up August: the first day of school for most Spring Lake Park Schools students on August 31! Across the district, students greeted the 2026-2027 school year with smiles, reunions and the excitement of new beginnings. Long before students walked through the doors, staff were already hard at work preparing for the year ahead.
Getting ready for day one means much more than setting up classrooms and organizing supplies. New employees have spent time onboarding, understanding school operations and core values. All staff gathered for kick-off events, professional learning and meeting families at the schools. Through it all, one focus remains at the heart of their preparation: creating schools where every student feels safe, supported, included and ready to grow. From building healthy relationships and friendships to fostering kindness, confidence and a sense of belonging, staff are preparing to help students be themselves and continue to thrive.
View photos in the first day photo album and read the story to hear from staff about some of the ways they’ve prepared for the new school year.
Meet Ms. Leighton's Kindergarten class!
Ms. Leighton's Kindergarten class is off to wonderful start! Each day is filled with learning, laughter and creativity. Our young learners are building friendships, developing important skills and having fun! We look forward to watching them continue to learn and grow throughout the school year.
I wonder . . .
What do our students wonder about? And what do they want their teachers to know about them?
We asked SLP students those questions as we prepared for a new school year. Their answers show the curiosity, interests and ideas students bring with them to school every day.
Wonder leads to learning. And knowing each student helps us design learning that is meaningful, personalized and connected to who they are.
As a new school year begins, we’re ready to wonder, learn and grow together.
