Schweitzer Halloween Parade October 31st-Outdoor Parade Likely Cancelled Due to Rain Schweitzer Halloween Parade October 31st-Outdoor Parade Likely Cancelled Due to Rain

zoom_out_map

We will be having a Halloween Parade at Schweitzer Elementary School at 2:00 pm on October 31st. Parents will be invited to view the parade, take photos, and wave if it does not rain! We will be parading around the loop in front of Sandburg Middle School. In the event of rain, the afternoon parade will take place in the building for students and staff only. AS OF NOW, THE FORECAST IS CALLING FOR RAIN, SO THE OUTDOOR PARADE IS NOT LOOKING PROMISING. I WILL EMAIL PARENTS BY 8:30 AM ON 10/31. Unfortunately, if it rains, the outdoor parade will be cancelled.

With the ever-increasing daily theme of aggression and violence in our society, the Schweitzer staff would like to suggest that parents carefully monitor the costume choices worn by students tomorrow. We would request that costume accessories which could be construed as weapons not be part of your child's costume choice. Save weapons, masks, and elaborate accessories for Halloween night.

In an effort to maintain a safe and secure atmosphere during our Halloween celebration, we ask the following:

  • Students are not permitted to go home to get ready for the parade and are not dismissed early directly following the parade.
  • No costumes may be worn to school on the bus.

In order to keep the day in proper perspective and in a secure and educational environment the above procedures are necessary. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Some classrooms will be having classroom parties following the parade. If you plan on volunteering to help with a classroom party, you MUST have clearances and be on the list provided by the homeroom teacher to be a part of the celebration. Only those parents on our volunteer list will be allowed to enter the building. Be sure to visit our district website for more information about obtaining volunteer clearances: https://www.neshaminy.org/domain/2376

Title I Parent Fall Meeting-Thursday October 31st at 1:00 Title I Parent Fall Meeting-Thursday October 31st at 1:00

We welcome all Schweitzer parents and guardians to join us for an informational meeting about our 2019-2020 building level Title I plan. The agenda for the meeting will include a brief overview of Federal Programs and how they benefit Schweitzer students, a review of the Schweitzer Title I building goals, and Parent Advisory Council items. Parent Advisory ensures that all parents have a voice and are involved in the decision-making process and that parent needs, concerns and issues are communicated. The Parent Advisory Council will review and revise the Schweitzer Parent and Family Engagement Policy as well as the Schweitzer Home and School Compact. We look forward to seeing you!

Update: Morning Drop Off for Students Update: Morning Drop Off for Students

This is a reminder that students should not be dropped off at Albert Schweitzer before 8:50 a.m. every day. If you drop your child off before then, there is no adult supervision outside of our school building. For the safety of your children, please do not drop off and leave your child before 8:50 a.m. Doors open promptly at that time.

Also, car riders are to get out on the passengers side of the car. No children should be getting out of the vehicle on the driver's side of the vehicle. This is to ensure the safety of all students.

If you want to walk your children up to the door, you need to enter the walker door at the horseshoe in the front of the building. No cars are to park in the back and then walk children up to the back doors. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.

October is National Bullying Prevention month and Albert Schweitzer celebrated by having a School Meeting on Unity Day, October 23rd. Unity Day is a day schools stand together against bullying and unite for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. The students and staff at Albert Schweitzer wore orange, and Mrs. Moyer taught students about the types of bullying, the effects of bullying and how they can be an upstander. Mr. Jones also presented Officer Melissa Robison with a "We Build Futures" award on behalf of Schweitzer for the many ways she helps our students, families, and staff at Schweitzer every day. At the end of the School Meeting, questions were asked about bullying. Students that answered a question correctly played 'Minute to Win It' against a staff member. Lots of fun and giggles to be had!

On Friday, September 27th, all students and staff participated in our C.A.R.E.S. kickoff for the 2019-2020 school year. Students visited five stations to talk about and apply skills that are associated with our C.A.R.E.S. acronym-Cooperation, Positive Attitude, Respect, Empathy, Safety. School Entrance Procedures School Entrance Procedures

Visitation of parents is encouraged and always welcomed. However, we do ask that prior arrangements be made before visiting the classrooms. In addition, we are sure you will agree that the security of the building and the safety of our students are paramount to all of us.

Upon entering the building, all visitors must register at the Kiosk with their valid driver's license in the entrance of the school for any business that you may have in our building, e.g., signing in late students, dropping off items, parent meetings, etc. After registering at the Kiosk, please proceed directly to the front office to sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass. This pass must be worn in a prominent place at all times while in the building. At the end of the visit, please return to the office, sign out and return the pass.

We value the health, safety, and welfare of our students, therefore at no time should parents or visitors enter the school building and go directly to their child's classroom or any other area of the building. In an effort to protect our students, all staff members will be required to ask anyone they see in the building for the visitor's badge. Staff members will respectfully direct any person without a badge to the front office.
