WARRIORS on the Yard! COLLEGE TOUR OPPORTUNITY
Volunteers Needed to Support Science & Social Studies Fairs
Dear Camp Creek Community,
Behind every successful student is an adult who took the time to encourage, guide, and inspire them.
As our Warriors prepare to showcase their hard work at the upcoming Social Studies and Science Fairs, we need volunteers who are willing to help bring these experiences to life.
🏛️ Social Studies Fair
December 8-9
🔬 Science Fair
December 15-16
Whether you serve as a judge or mentor a student before the fair, your support can have a lasting impact. A few hours of your time can help a student gain confidence, improve a project, and discover strengths they didn't know they had.
⭐ We Need You
Our goal is to ensure every student has the opportunity to present their very best work. To make that happen, we need dedicated volunteers who will:
✅ Judge student projects
✅ Mentor students during project preparation
✅ Encourage academic excellence
✅ Help celebrate the achievements of our Warriors
📢 Will You Answer the Call?
Don't underestimate the difference you can make. The encouragement you provide today could inspire a future scientist, engineer, educator, researcher, or community leader.

COSA- Change of School Assignment Window Closes 12/18
Annual application window is opening Oct. 20 for Change of School Assignment (COSA) requests
Under Fulton County School Board Policy JBCC, families of students in kindergarten through 12th grade can apply for a school transfer by submitting a Change of School Assignment (COSA) request.
COSA brings the district’s transfer-related programs together under one process and annual application timeline. For the 2027-2028 school year, the application window runs from October 20 through December 18, 2026.
Top 10 Things to Know
Below is a summary of key points for parents, with full information posted at www.fultonschools.org/COSA.
- The COSA process covers all transfer-related programs, including those due to parent preference (no specific academic, hardship or medical reason needed), children of FCS employees, magnet studies, and options made available through state law, such as the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship and Georgia Public School Choice/Open Enrollment.
- The list of COSA-eligible schools will be published Oct. 20, 2026, to the COSA website. Up to three (3) schools, in priority order, may be selected during the online application.
- Applications will only be accepted for schools on the COSA-eligible list. Schools that are part of current Redistricting/ Consolidation/ Closure planning or at a high enrollment capacity are not COSA-eligible.
- Parents can apply any time during the application window of Oct. 20, 2026, through Dec. 18, 2026.
- Acceptance or denial will be emailed in late January 2027 to parents/guardians.
- If a transfer is approved, parents/guardians/students must provide their own transportation to the accepting school.
- To continue enrollment, students must meet attendance, academic and behavioral requirements.
- If COSA is approved, students are eligible to remain at the school through their terminal year (5th, 8th, 12th) and do not need to reapply annually unless moving on to middle or high school. Students with an IEP or Section 504 plan may stay if their program remains available at the school.
- Students with transfers approved before August 1, 2024, may remain through the school’s highest grade without a new application.
- Transfer requests for children of military families, children experiencing homelessness, and victims of violent criminal offenses are subject to separate requirements under applicable laws. Families should confirm the COSA application steps and deadlines that apply to their situation.
Magnet Programs and Schools Without An Attendance Zone
Students wanting to attend a magnet program at a location outside of their home attendance boundary must first submit a COSA application. If a transfer is granted, students can then apply for admission into the magnet program through the school. COSA acceptance does not guarantee magnet program placement, so parents should contact the school for specific program participation criteria.
Also, schools without an attendance zone do not require a COSA application. These are FCS Innovation Academy, Global Impact Academy, The Promise Career Institute, F.A.V.E. (Fulton Academy of Virtual Excellence) and FCS charter schools. The Accelerated Career Program/FCS Middle College at North Springs High School allows any student, regardless of their attendance zone, to apply and does not require a COSA application; however, admission to North Springs’ STEAM magnet does require COSA.

Mental Health and Wellness Support is Back
Mental health support is here for Camp Creek Middle School’s students and families this year.
Camp Creek Middle School partners with Cartwheel to connect students and families to mental health support when they need it. This year, Cartwheel offers individual therapy for students, parent and caregiver guidance, and new expanded Care Programs for specific challenges including school avoidance, screens and social media use, and intense emotions and behavior challenges.
Appointments are virtual and flexible, including evenings and weekends. Care is free with Medicaid, and most private insurances are accepted. Care is available in multiple languages, including Spanish.

6 Practical Ways Parents Can Help Prevent Teen Substance Use
THC Vapes Stand Out as One of the Most Common Substances Found in Schools
Vaping continues to be a concerning behavior for teens and vapes containing THC (the addictive compound in cannabis plants that causes the high) has become more prevalent. The hemp-derived cartridges are unregulated because of their slightly lower level of THC, and tend to be easily accessible from gas stations, friends, older students, and dealers at school. (Marijuana-derived TCH vapes are illegal.)
If someone is caught vaping, administration tests the device for THC. Consequences will be administered based on the student code of conduct and GA state law. State laws prohibit possession and use of any vaping devices, tobacco products, and cannabis-derived substances on school grounds.
Other Substance Use Trends Among Students
- THC Gummies
- Alcohol
- Pills
- Other marijuana products
6 Practical Ways Parents Can Help Prevent Teen Substance Use
Keeping up can be overwhelming. Fads spread much quicker than they used to as viral ideas instantly reach global audiences and quickly become trends and physical products.
2. How many phones does your child have? One of the most surprising findings in the ACE-1 program was the number of students who have multiple phones. They may have one you know about and monitor, and another “secret” phone.
3. Pay attention to the law.
In Georgia, it is illegal for anyone under 21 to buy, possess, or use nicotine or alternative nicotine/vape products. Recreational marijuana and THC oil vapes are completely illegal for minors and adults alike, and possessing THC oil—even in a small vape pen—can result in serious felony drug charges under the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Nicotine and Vaping Age Restrictions (Tobacco 21)
- The Law: Under Georgia's Tobacco 21 law, selling, bartering, or providing alternative nicotine or vapor products to anyone under 21 is illegal.
- Minors in Possession: It is illegal for individuals under 21 to possess or use these products.
4. How old are your child’s friends? Many of the students in the ACE-1 program have “friends” who are older than they are, which could be a sign of them possibly being involved with substance use. Friendships that don’t add up are worth looking into
5.Potency – Are you comparing it to when you were a student? SouthLight’s Prevention Educators note they often hear things from parents like, “I used marijuana when I was younger, and it didn’t hurt me.” But today, THC Vapes and joints are significantly more potent (30% THC compared to 4-6% in the 90s, with some concentrates boasting 90% to 95% THC—in the form of waxes, edibles, and more). Source: https://www.apa.org/monitor/2025/06/marijuana-potency-policy-risk
6. Life changes and developmental differences: A common thread the SouthLight team sees in its program are students who are experiencing some kind of tumult in their lives or have been uprooted in some way (moved to a new town, changed schools, etc.). Ninth graders in particular fall under this category as they’re trying to fit in at high school. Another is students who may be on the neurodivergent spectrum, such as those with ADHD.
Substance use trends are ever evolving, but one thing remains constant: parents play a critical role in prevention.
