Outrun or Stand with...
This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about stability—or rather, the lack of it. When the world feels heavy and the ground beneath us starts to feel less than solid, our natural instinct is often to tighten our grip and move faster, hoping to outrun the chaos. But I’ve realized that the best kind of resilience isn't found in how quickly we can escape the tremor, but in how we choose to stand while it's happening.
We often forget that it takes a much deeper, quieter strength to stay present and refuse to let go of the people around us when we're tempted to only save ourselves. It’s a reminder that we don't have to be fearless to be a pillar; we just have to be willing to hold steady for someone else.

📢 BIG Update for Nebraska Substitute Teachers! 🌽
Becoming a substitute teacher in Nebraska just got a whole lot simpler. Thanks to the passing of the LB1022 amendment, we are excited to announce major changes to educator certification requirements!
What’s Changing?
Human Relations Training (HRT) is no longer required for substitute teaching permits. This applies to BOTH local and state substitutes.
New Requirements at a Glance:
For Local Substitutes:
Application & Fee
Fingerprints (if applicable)
Minimum 48 semester credit hours
Note: The 90-day restriction still applies, but you can request additional days!
For State Substitutes:
Application & Fee
Fingerprints (if applicable)
Must hold (or have held) a Nebraska regular teaching certificate or an equivalent out-of-state certificate.
What this means for you:
The Nebraska Department of Education is currently updating their website and applications to reflect these changes. Best of all? Conditional requests for local subs missing an HRT course are no longer needed. Ready to get started?
Request Additional Days: https://www.education.ne.gov/local-substitute-teaching.../
Certification Details: https://www.education.ne.gov/tcert/

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Run or Support...
Good morning!
Welcome to the last week of APRIL! What an amazing ride this has been. The roller coaster of emotion has had it's peaks and valleys yet I can say this year has flown right by. It will never be perfect but we have had some amazing moments together and throughout. I commend our tremendous administration team for their leadership behind the scenes and the support they give. To our teachers who show up each day for our students, even when their own lives may be a little crazy but they still prioritize relationships first. To our AD who has everything organized, posted, and leads things beind the scenes. To our paraprofessionals who take on many tasks and have pushed our students, while supporting our teachers every day. To our kitchen staff who shows up, has everything ready for 370 students to come through from 10:50am to 1:27pm.
To our custodial superteam who has our school looking amazing each and every day. To our bus drivers who have our students arrive or taken safely each day and taking time from their day to drive to activities as well. To our head of maintenance keeping the HVAC operational, organizing the daily tasks, and starting the mowing process now. To our administrative assistance who take many calls, input many items, and take on other tasks because they want to make sure the district is moving forward. To our business manager who makes sure that every penny our school brings or sends is accounted for as well as making sure everyone is being paid on pay-day! And to our nurse who is on the clock daily, giving medications throughout the day, there quick with an icepack/mint, and having 72 different alarms set so that she doesn't forget anything.
Today has been a day of reflection for myself and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this GREAT district, to be around amazing individuals who make an impact every day, and to be part of two communities that may have some differences here and there but we always come together to support each other in the journey of life. So I thank you.
As we approach the finish line of another year, the atmosphere naturally shifts into a frantic sprint. Between the high stakes of graduation, the mountain of end-of-year tasks for our staff, and the emotional transitions our families are navigating at home, the pressure to simply "outrun" the stress is immense. But beyond the visible deadlines, we must also recognize that many among us are battling hidden fights—private turmoils and quiet burdens that don't make it onto a to-do list. When the world feels like it’s shaking, we often don’t realize that the person standing next to us is trying to steady a world of their own.
The true heartbeat of our communities isn’t found in how fast we reach the end, but in how we steady one another along the way. Whether you are a student feeling the weight of the future, a staff member balancing professional excellence with personal trials, or a parent holding together a household amidst the chaos, we are all standing on that same shifting ground. Our greatest achievement this year won't be a line on a transcript or a finished checklist; it will be the grace we extend to one another, acknowledging that we are all fighting battles others may know nothing about.
When we choose to pause—to offer a word of encouragement to a colleague, a moment of patience to a child, or a hand to a peer—we transform the turmoil of the season into a shared foundation of strength. Let’s finish this year not as individuals racing to a finish line, but as a community that measures its success by the backs we supported while the ground was shaking.
As you look back on this past week, how has your presence affected those around you? In the heat of the rush, did you lean into the support of others, or did you add to the weight they were already carrying? There is always room to do more to lift up than to let go.
Have a great rest of your week!
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
