LB65 Community Bulletin
November 3rd, 2023
Welcome Lake Bluff Community!
This is our first-ever LB65 Community Bulletin, a communication we plan on sending each month to share timely news and information about our work in District 65.
We value your partnership and your understanding of what we are doing to ensure Excellence in Education, Enthusiasm for Life, Every Student, Every Day.
As we continue to implement our strategic plan, which we refer to as Route 65, we will share those action steps and stories of student and staff growth. We will also share opportunities to engage and share your feedback with us from your vantage point as a parent/guardian, neighbor, or community partner.
One thing you can continue to do as a parent is to ensure your student is at school and ready to learn every day! We are focusing on regular attendance this year and have a new saying you can repeat back to your child: Every Day is the Lake Bluff Way!
Every Student, Every Day,
Dr. Lisa Leali
Superintendent

School Safety: Our Top Priority at LB65!
At LB65, we know that safety is key to good learning. We work hard to make sure our schools are safe in many ways. Let's talk about three big ones:
Physical Safety
Our buildings are strong and secure. We even had a safety audit by a third party called Allegion. They helped us find ways to make our schools even safer.
As a result, safety film and new security cameras were installed at both schools this summer. Changes were also made to the vestibules at both schools to require approval before full entry to the building. Improved safety measures were added to the LBMS parking lot specifically for student, biker, and driver safety at drop-off and pick-up each day.
Community Safety
Whether it's partnering with the Lake Bluff Police Department or bringing in specialists to talk about important issues like safe gun storage, we team up to ensure our community is working together to keep our students safe.
The Lake Bluff PD recently visited our schools to do a formal test known as a Crisis Simulation. In this exercise, staff and law enforcement follow all the steps as if the emergency is real. At the end, teams debrief to find areas for improvement and clarity on roles and responsibilities.
We rely on everyone in our community to keep an eye on our students and schools. Families and communities play an important role in preventing harmful items from entering our doors and alerting law enforcement to any threats. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for their expertise and guidance as we do everything in our power to keep our students safe.
Social-Emotional Safety
Research shows students who feel safe and valued at school are less likely to deal with mental health issues and are more likely to be engaged in their learning. Feeling safe and valued stems from a consistent culture of respect and care in our buildings. Our Student Services Department leads the way in this effort to ensure every student has a sense of belonging while in Lake Bluff 65.
COMING UP
Big News! We are planning our 2nd Annual Student Safety Community Event for the spring. This event will have important talks from BeSmart Gun Safety, LEAD, and Lake Bluff PD.
Safety is a team effort. We all play a part in making LB65 a safe place to learn and grow. Thank you for being a part of our safety team!
