MESA Day 2026
On May 22, 2026 more than 500 students, educators, mentors, volunteers, industry professionals, and community members from all over Oregon gathered at Portland State University for Oregon MESA Day 2026, the statewide celebration of invention, engineering, community, and student achievement for MESA Club members.
This year’s theme, Each One, Teach One, invited students to look close to home for inspiration. Rooted in traditions of collective learning and intergenerational knowledge-sharing, the theme centered on community, connection, identity, and human-centered engineering. Throughout the school year, students partnered with real clients located within one mile of their school or home and used the MESA engineering design process to create solutions that strengthen the communities they know best.
The result was a remarkable showcase of student innovation, creativity, and care for the people around them.
Thanks to Liam Abba, Abel Gramunt, Edgar Gramunt, London Heldsinger, Mateo Iniguez Sollman, Roy Kim, Grady Link, Collin Love and Samuel Reiser for a great year of MESA Club! Congratulations to Edgar Gramunt, MESA Chapter Student Of The Year!
Wonderful Year for WEB!
This week our 8th grade leaders had one final Meet Up with the 6th grade small groups they have been getting to know all year long. Celebrating a successful first year of middle school filled with growth, friendship, and fun is the perfect way to wrap up the year. We are so thankful for the dedicated 8th graders who worked hard to support our welcoming Whitford community. We will miss their kindness and dedication when they head to high school in the fall but know our WEB leaders will continue to share those gifts in the future!

8th Grade Bridge Trip
Our 8th grade students were able to go on a walking tour of Portland's bridges. Students were able to see a bridge as it was raised. This trip is in conjunction with their science unit about bridge construction.
From the Library
Please help your child locate and return Whitford library books. Students in 8th grade should double check their accounts-any unpaid fines or overdue books could delay their registration for high school. Students can check their library accounts through the “BSD Library Resources” app on the Student Apps page or stop in the library for help.
Keep your student reading this summer! All BSD students have a WCCLS Library card that can be used at any Washington County Library! The libraries host a summer reading program and also have various activities throughout the year. Visit wccls.org for locations, activity calendars, and catalog. Student username is “BSD+student ID” and their password is the last 4 digits of their student ID.
Students also have access to ebooks and audiobooks through BSD and WCCLS. Download the “Sora” app for your device-read more about it here! (app.smore.com/n/u41pm) Happy Summer Reading!

AVID Career Day
Our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade AVID students just wrapped up their Career Day presentations, and they did an incredible job! The students spent weeks researching different career paths, organizing their notes, and preparing visual displays. For the final project, they set up interactive stations and confidently presented their findings to their non-AVID peers, teaching them about different job responsibilities, schooling requirements, and future career outlooks. We are so proud of the professionalism, public speaking skills, and enthusiasm they showed throughout the entire project—they really took a fantastic step toward their futures!
