We are ready for a great first full week of school. Students are learning the routines and procedures and things have been extremely smooth for arrival! Please read through the important information in this newsletter each week and if you have any questions, just let us know.
Arrival Procedure
We will now have students report to the Falcons Nest or the Cafeteria in the mornings up until 7:30 AM for 4th and 5th graders and 7:35 AM for 3rd graders. Third grade teachers will retrieve their students at 7:35 AM. If students arrive after these times, then they should report directly to class. This allows teachers to have some prep time before receiving students.

Curriculum Night
Our Curriculum Nights will be held August 20th and 21st. Fifth grade will be held August 20th. Third and Fourth will be August 21st. If your child receives EIP and/or gifted services, information sessions will be held prior to curriculum night at 5:15. Locations to be determined.
We will begin both nights together in the multipurpose room at 6:00 PM and dismiss to classes at 6:30 PM. You will also have an opportunity to meet and speak with Specials, EIP, Gifted, Special Education and other school support personnel. We look forward to sharing with you soon.
F.AVE's School Leadership Team Needs YOU! We currently have not had any expressed interest
The Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary School Leadership Team (SLT) is an elected committee consisting of parents/guardians, FAVE staff members, community members and other personnel. All CSD schools have an SLT, formed as part of our System Charter, renewed by the state in 2014. Some of the responsibilities of this team are:
- School Improvement Plan (SIP): Develop, approve and monitor the continuous school improvement planning process
- Determine the allocation of the school's instructional and technology budget
- Review student achievement data
- Recommend and support school needs to the CSD Board of Education during the annual budget process
- Help with the interview process of potential FAVE employees
- Meet once a month: 3rd Wednesday of the month from 4:45 PM - 6:15 PM

F.AVE has two parent 2-year terms expiring this year. If you are interested in serving F.AVE as an SLT member or returning as a member, please submit your name, a paragraph with a biographical statement, and a paragraph stating why you want to be on the SLT to Karen Newton at knewton@csdecatur.net. Deadline for submission is Thursday, August 15th. We will eBlast candidate statements in our weekly newsletter and class communication.
SLT elections will occur on August 20-21 from 7:45 AM through the close of Curriculum Night. Voting will take place in at the front desk and in classrooms that evening. If you have any questions, please call Karen Newton at 404-371-6680.
