Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
October 29th, 2021
This week was surprisingly and disappointingly cut short by the inclement weather. I hope everyone emerges from the storm safely and my thoughts are also with anyone with family and friends along the water for their safety and minimal damage.
However, this week our first clubs did begin meeting and we launched our first activity bus to support student participation! Thank you for your patience as our clubs get organized, given the delayed start. If you have questions about a particular club, please reach out to the sponsoring staff. As you'll see in the pictures below, 18 months of growth was nothing our Garden Club staff, students, and families couldn't overcome. We also had a nice picture day and look forward to those keepsakes coming back!
Fortunately, we also have much to look forward to in the week ahead:
- This Sunday is the PTA Halloween Parade, read on below for more details (a quick note and apology that I will not be able to join this year as I had hoped due to a family conflict -- I look forward to seeing everyone next year).
- Tuesday is the 16th Annual Lutherville Lab Turkey Trot for 3rd through 5th graders
- Thursday is Fall Family Night! Families interested in attending need to register through this Sign-Up Genius, selecting two sessions. Availability is limited and first-come, first-served.
- Throughout the week we will be taking candy donations for the Share the Treats program. See more information below.
Additionally, I want to share a few scheduling notes:
-On Friday, November 5th, we have a 1:05 dismissal. This date also marks the end of the first quarter of the school year!
-Please see the BCPS system message below regarding American Education Week in November.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

“Gym-NEWS-ium” PE News and Notes from Mr. Bruns
Lutherville Lab’s 16th Turkey Trot, November 2nd from 4:20pm-5:20pm.
The Turkey Trot is a one mile fun run on school grounds (back fields and learning garden) for 3rd-5th graders. We are requesting that all participants donate a minimum of 2 non-perishable food items for the Maryland Food Bank.
After the run, the participants will receive refreshments and medals will be awarded to the top three boys and girls of each grade level. All participants will then have a chance to win a turkey and other various prizes.
This is an excellent opportunity to have fun with your friends, get exercise and help those less fortunate! All registration forms must be turned in by this Monday, November 1st. Please email JBruns@bcps.org with any questions.
November Fitness Challenge
Each month through the school year will be another opportunity to get the family up and moving. Please see the attachment and encourage your child to complete as many days as they can next month.
Share the Treats Program
We have partnered with Dulaney High School Key Club to participate in the "Share the Treats" program to benefit those less fortunate. You can involve your children in this program by having them share their excess candy with others.
They can bring their excess "treats" to school on Monday, Nov 1st and Tuesday Nov 2nd. These treats will be collected and given to local shelters, hospitals, and other places for children who are unable to go "Trick or Treating."
Please only donate store wrapped confections. This project is part of the Key Club's efforts to help children better understand their responsibilities within our society. Thanks in advance to all those who will participate.
American Education Week
BCPS to Celebrate 2021 American Education Week Virtually
November 15-19, 2021, is American Education Week and Baltimore County Public Schools is pleased to join in on this national celebration of public education that honors the many individuals who work to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education. Teachers, support staff, administrators, and others have had to completely reimagine how to provide instruction, supports, meals, and resources to students throughout the pandemic. We thank our Team BCPS heroes for their unwavering commitment to our students and families and we recognize your tireless efforts.
Like last year, our American Education Week celebration will be held virtually to ensure the safety of students and staff and reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. Details about virtual systemwide and school-based celebrations for American Education Week will be shared with Team BCPS and families soon.
