Hatboro-Horsham School District
Inspiring ALL Learners to Reach their Full Potential
Celebrating November Together!
Dear Hatters,
As a school district, we truly believe that “ALL ARE WELCOME HERE” and we are constantly looking for opportunities to be more inclusive, build awareness, and develop our cultural competence to be more equitable in our way of supporting our students, staff, and community. This monthly inclusive newsletter will serve as a resource for our staff and families to learn more about the diverse cultures and members of our community.
November Community Recognitions
National Native American Heritage Month
November is celebrated as National Native American Heritage Month. This month is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions of Native Americans to the country’s history, culture, and society. The month-long celebration aims to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by Native Americans and their rich cultural heritage.
As a resource, Hatter community members may choose from different books to learn more about Native American History and Culture by visiting our interactive Native American Reading Room.
Veterans Day
In addition, Saturday, November 11, 2023, is Veterans Day. As a community, we would like to honor our local veterans by thanking them for their courage and bravery.
School District Events Happening to Celebrate our Veterans:
Friday, November 10, 2023
- Blair Mill Elementary School Veterans Day Breakfast 9:30-10:30 AM
- Keith Valley Middle School Veterans Day Breakfast 8:00-10:00 AM
Monday, November 13, 2023
- Hatboro-Horsham High School Veterans Day Breakfast 9:30-11:30 AM
Below are some ways our Hatter community can help honor and celebrate our local Veterans:
1. Send a card or Video
Start compiling a list of names and addresses of the Veterans you know and send them a thank you card this year.
2. Organize a Care-Package Packing Party
If you don't know someone currently stationed overseas, contact a nearby base or an organization like Blue Star Moms to identify troops in need.
3. Thank Veterans in your Workplace
A simple thank you goes a long way. However, feel free to show extra appreciation by taking a Veteran from your office out to coffee or lunch. Keep in mind that Veterans are typically very humble and don't like creating a big to-do - simple things go a long way.
4. Support Veteran-Owned Businesses
Veteran-owned businesses are in every community. Google makes it easier to find in their business profiles via their Google My Business profile. It usually signifies via a "Veteran-Led" note on the profile. You can also use Veteran-owned business directories or ask friends in your community.
5. Make a Donation or Volunteer
There are many charities that help Veterans in need. Consider making a donation this Veterans Day to help those wounded or affected by service.
Diwali
On Saturday, November 12th, members of our community will be celebrating Diwali. Diwali, also called Divali or Deepavali is a “festival of lights” that celebrates the triumph of light over dark, good over evil, and the blessings of victory, freedom, and enlightenment.
American Education Week
American Education Week 2023 is an annual event that celebrates the importance of education and recognizes the contributions of educators, school staff, and the entire education community. This week-long observance serves as an opportunity to highlight the vital role of education in shaping the future and creating opportunities for students of all ages. Please look for detailed information from each of our buildings in the near future.

Hatters: A Seat at the Table
Community Connection:
As a community, we believe that one of our greatest assets are the many traditions and cultures that are present in our community. We have a commitment to engage our families, celebrate traditions, and build a culture where everyone feels they belong, and spend time learning about one another. One of the best ways to do this and bring people together is through food.
To help celebrate and learn more about the many traditions and cultures in our community, we are inviting our families to share family recipes. Once your recipe is shared, we will then add it to our Hatter Family Recipe Book that will be accessible online for you to consider trying at home with your family.
To add your recipe to our Hatter Family Recipe Book, please click on the link below! If recipes are allergy free and feasible to make, we will partner with our food services department to provide samples for our students to try in our schools to highlight our community and families.
