2023-2024 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families

The CannonConnection2023-2024 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families

We are Cannon Proud! ☮️❤️⚙️🐻 We are Cannon Proud! ☮️❤️⚙️🐻

January 21-27, 2024

Good morning, Cannon families,

Thank you for your flexibility with the weather last week! Flexibility will continue to be our word for the next couple of months. This year, El Niño’s 2024 (the first time in four years) impact on DFW means we will have an "ACTIVE" winter. This weather pattern typically brings warmer-than-average temperatures to the northern U.S. and "An enhanced southern jet stream and associated moisture." Which means high odds for above-average precipitation for the south. Get your patience, rain, and cold gear ready! Stay tuned to our GCISD updates...

Please help me give our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade scholars and their teachers a big shout-out for working so hard to prepare for our accountability testing. Our second round of STAAR Interim testing went very well. We will finish our interim testing this Friday with Reading. Please understand that this will be a closed campus day, while we simulate a "real" testing day.

Please make sure your scholar arrives on time each morning prepared with their charged iPad or Chromebook. EVERY DAY COUNTS! As a reminder staff is available at 7:20 and doors open at 7:25. Scholars are late after 7:40 and breakfast is no longer available. Also, 👟please remember to send students in sneakers - especially on PE days!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett

Cannon Elementary Kids Heart Challenge's Update!

Heartfelt thanks to the Cannon Elementary students who've learned Hands-Only CPR during Kids Heart Challenge, earned characters delivering heart-healthy messages, and are spreading awareness through texts, emails, and social media! Our goal is to raise $9,000 donations so we can help American Heart Association and earn PE equipment for our school.

Want to help? Sign up, donate or get a donation, and complete Finn’s Mission! Download the free app for iPhone or Android, or online: http://www2.heart.org/goto/CannonElementary.

Any student that raises $125 gets to pour a cup of GLITTER SLIME on Coach Hood!!!

Congratulations to the following students who have already earned their cup of Slime: Delaney H , Savannah V , Sawyer B , Elizabeth H , Levi S , Grace B , Claire M , Max B , Kirkland S , Kira C , Faith C , Kathryn B , Aurora J , Isaac F , Nicholas B.

So here is the LATEST:

Last year Cannon Elementary raised $8,020.99 in donations, had 98 kids online and 21 students to complete Finn’s Mission. As of 12PM today, you have $5,189.17 online, 86 kids learning heart healthy behaviors online, and 12 students who have completed Finn’s Mission! You are only $2,831.82 away from last year and you still have 9 days to go! SO EXCITING!!!

Inspire Others. "Being someone who can save a life, that's a superpower if you ask me" - Damar Hamlin. See what he says about knowing CPR. Completing Finn’s Mission is the way inspire friends and family to get healthier, learn CPR, and to spot a stroke.
