Sustaining Student Mental Health & Wellness Services
CVUSD is proud to offer students a myriad of Mental Health & Wellness Services across our campuses. This includes being home to ten Wellness Centers, located at our secondary school campuses, which offer drop-in services, individual and small group counseling, workshops, schoolwide activities, and more.
Currently, the U.S. Department of Education is withholding nearly $5 million in previously awarded School-Based Mental Health (SBMH) Services Grant Program funds intended to support CVUSD’s Mental Health & Wellness Services for the 2026–2027 school year. The interruption of funding is the result of federal administrative and legal actions affecting SBMH grant recipients nationwide, not because of any act or omission by the CVUSD. Although the CVUSD joined federal litigation and court orders have directed further action by the Department, the federal government has not released confirmed, usable funds and has instead issued a limited extension to fund services through February 6, 2026. As a result, CVUSD does not presently have access to the remaining funds, and the matter remains pending further judicial review, with the next Ninth Circuit hearing scheduled for February 23.
How You Can Help Right Now: A new Initiative from the State of California, the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), has made it possible for our CVUSD schools to directly be reimbursed by private health insurance plans for the mental health and wellness services provided to students on campus by our mental health clinicians and counselors. By providing CVUSD with your health insurance plan information, CVUSD can begin the process of billing for the mental health and wellness services your student(s) receive. Please be assured that there is no cost to you. You will not receive a bill or a co-pay, and these services will not count towards or impact your insurance deductible in any way.
👉 Click here for step-by-step instructions for accessing and uploading information to Healthy Campus.
Why it Matters: Now, when families provide their private health insurance plan information, our schools can get reimbursed through CYBHI for the important mental health services they provide, which will provide critical financial support for these on-campus services.
Reminder: CVUSD is committed to partnering with parents and guardians who will be informed with consent sought before children receive ongoing individual mental health services at school.
The CVUSD stands unwavering in our commitment to the overall well-being and mental health of every student we serve. For additional information, click here to visit our new Sustaining Student Mental Health & Wellness website.

Save the Date: School & Community Resource Fair for Families of Students w/ IEPs
The CVUSD Special Education Department invites families of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to join them at the CVUSD hosted Resource Fair on Wednesday, February 18th from 9am to 10:30am in the University Center MPR (2801 Atlas Avenue, Thousand Oaks). CVUSD staff including CVUSD school psychologists, and BCBAs, as well as representatives from community agencies/resources such as Rainbow Connection and Tri-Counties Regional Center and more, will provide tables of information. This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about community resources and have any questions that you may have answered.
Last week, approximately 175 CVUSD high school students from Conejo Valley, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake High Schools participated in Bite of Reality®, a hands-on financial literacy program hosted in partnership with Logix Federal Credit Union. Held at California Lutheran University’s Soiland Arena, the event used an interactive app to simulate real-life financial decisions, including budgeting, paying bills, managing credit scores, and making everyday purchases.
With support from Logix employee volunteers and community members, students navigated eight “shopping” stations covering housing, transportation, groceries, and more - learning firsthand the importance of smart spending and financial planning. When challenges arose, such as overspending or overdue bills, students worked with credit union volunteers to problem-solve and adjust their budgets.
CVUSD is grateful for our dedicated community partners who continue to go above and beyond to support our students and school communities.
