Linden Middle School
May Newsletter
Dear LMS Families,
It has been a great experience serving as the Principal here at Linden Middle School over the last month and a half. Ms. Thomas has been a pleasure to work with and will be missed here at LMS, we all wish her the best of luck as the Curriculum Director for LCS.
It has always been a pleasure of mine, since starting at LMS six years ago, to watch the growth of the students over the course of each year. Watching the 6th and 7th graders turn into the future leaders, and watching the 8th grade leaders move onto High School. With change comes uncertainty. Moving to a new building, with so many unknowns, is an unnerving and anxious feeling for both parents and students. Like anything, those feelings will pass and the comforts of security will take over after a short acclimation period. I have all the confidence that LMS has prepared all of our students to successfully transition to their next destination.
May is a very busy month and one that closes in on the end of the 2022-2023 school year. I have included some important reminders as we finish up another school year.
M-STEP Testing (MDE Summative Assessment): Week of May 1st - 6th grade (language arts and math)
M-Step Makeup - May 5
8th grade Washington DC trip - Departure May 5, returning May 9
5th grade tour (LMS) - 5/15 and 5/17
8th grade class trip to Cedar Point - May 31
7th grade class trip to Lansing Lugnuts - May 31
8th Grade Recognition - June 2nd - 7:45 a.m. / MS Gymnasium
Though we are in the home stretch, we still have unfinished business here at LMS. Please encourage your student to finish the year strong. June 2nd marks an intermission in the educational journey, not the finish line. My expectation for every student here at LMS to is become a better student and person with each passing day. Finish strong, and start next school year stronger!
8th Grade Trip to Washington DC May 5 - May 9
The trip is near. If you have any last minute questions please contact Mrs. McBride at hmcbride@lindenschools.org.

Congratulations Mrs. Crumm for being selected as the county's Awesome Educator!
Congratulations to LMS Student of the Month, Robert Gilmore! Special thanks to Student Council members, Sydney Shepard and Riley Schweitzer, for presenting a great speech about Robert.
SOAR Leadership opportunity
Attention 7th Grade Parents:
We are currently accepting applications for our SOAR Leader program. SOAR Leaders are 8th grade role models who team with our 6th graders to help welcome and transition them to the middle school. SOAR Leaders engage in fun, community-building activities with their 6th grade buddies throughout the school year.
We are looking for SOAR Leaders with the following qualities and characteristics:
- Friendly towards others
- Make an effort to include everyone
- Have good school attendance
- Demonstrate leadership qualities
- Work hard and try their best in school
- Earn 3s and 4s for their SOAR citizenship scores
- No discipline referrals this year
Please Note: SOAR Leaders MUST be able to attend training on Tuesday, August 8 and 6th grade orientation on Thursday, August 10. Any leader who misses required dates will not be eligible to continue as a SOAR Leader.
Applications are due by Friday, May 5th. Applications are located on the LMS website under School Counseling.
There are a limited number of SOAR Leader spots available. Filling out this application does not guarantee you a spot. Leaders will be selected in mid-May.
Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Gambrel at jgambrel@lindenschools.org
Be sure to include your Eagle Time teacher for your child's homeroom teacher.

Community Education
Linden Community Education is excited to announce that we are transitioning to Eleyo, a convenient mobile-friendly online platform for registration, payments, and account management. This new format will make it easier to search for programs that fit your needs and register online for current Community Education Programming.
Please look for an additional email announcement in the coming weeks with a link to access the site once registration is open. All summer programming will be accessible through Eleyo for registration.
