Sheikh Visit & New Member Ceremony

Here's a little midweek reminder that...

This Sunday is one of those extra-special UU Sundays, the kind that you really don't want to miss!

For starters, this Sunday we will joyfully welcome new members and friends to our congregation!

There are over 30 new members and friends this year, and included are some familiar faces from the Family Ministry program!

Cue the warm applause for our beloved Family Ministry participants, volunteers, and friends:

• Delilah and her mamas,
• Freya and her mom,
• the Richards (aka volunteers extraordinaire - you might not recognize them out of the elf costumes!)
• and friends, Lydia and John.

We are honored to welcome Sheikh Naser, as a special guest speaker and storyteller!

Originally from Jordan but now serving as the new Imam of the Asheville Islamic Center, Sheikh Naser will share a story during the service and then lead a lesson about Islam, Ramadan, and life in the Middle East for families in the Fellowship Hall.

He is bringing with him two other Muslim guests to answer questions and has invited families from the Asheville Islamic Center to join us as well.

We've had Jewish, Christian, and Pagan guest speakers, but this is the first time we'll have a Muslim Family Ministry guest speaker, and I'm so excited about this opportunity for our families!

Learning about different faiths stretches our thinking and deepens our understanding - two exercises at the heart of our Unitarian Universalist commitment to learning, connection, and the interdependent web we share.

This Sunday brings a chance to make new friends, hear global voices, and feel the love of a room full of welcome! I hope you and your family join us! You and your kids are, as always, welcome to bring friends! At UUFH, you are loved, your children are cherished, and our faith is love in action!
