Morning Detentions:
Tuesdays and/or Fridays 8:50 AM – 9:10 AM.
*Scholars will check-in at the front office and be escorted to location.
A missed morning detention will result in a discipline referral and an assigned day of ABS (Alternative Bell Schedule) – no excuses. If transportation or other reasons may prevent a parent/guardian from getting their scholar to a morning detention, it is especially important you communicate and help hold your scholar accountable to getting to class on time – I reiterate, a missed morning detention will result in a day of ABS – no excuses.
Level Up
Our Lancer scholars are being challenged daily to be their best. I encourage all families to expect their scholar to Level Up daily; this includes attending daily, arriving on time, full engagement, and advocating for help when needed. These established behaviors become habits and make a tremendous difference as we progress through the year. As communicated, we are off to a great start; I ask for your continued partnership and support as we aim to:

✍🏻 PSAT - 8th Grade ✍🏻
Thursday, October 15
Lancer 8th Grade Families, on Thursday, October 15, 8th Grade scholars will take the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), a powerful tool that supports academic growth, SAT readiness, and college and career planning.
Why it matters:
- SAT Prep: The PSAT/NMSQT tests the same skills as the SAT, making it a smart first step in preparing for your future.
- Course Potential: Recommendations for future AP courses in which the student is likely to succeed.
- Personalized Feedback: Scholars receive detailed insights into their strengths and areas for growth.
- Free Resources: After the test, scholars gain access to:
- A customized SAT study plan via Khan Academy
- Score reports with answer explanations
- A personality test to explore majors and careers
- A college list tailored to interests and goals
Taking the PSAT/NMSQT in earlier grades helps scholars improve over time and boosts their chances of qualifying for scholarships and academic honors in 11th grade. We encourage all scholars to give their best effort on test day—you’re investing in your future.
No action is needed if your child will participate. If you do not want your child to take the PSAT/NMSQT, please return this form (signed) to Mr. Dixon (School Counselor).
🛼 ASTRO SKATE 🛼
Friday, October 16 @8-11 PM
Once received, admission passes will be given to scholars.
💝 ECG Screenings 💝
Friday, October 30
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death on school campuses – more than any form of cancer, concussion or illness combined. Thousands of seemingly healthy kids die every year due to detectable heart conditions.
That’s why Meadowlawn Middle School is thrilled to announce that we’ve partnered with Who We Play For to provide our youth the opportunity to get their heart checked with an electrocardiogram for $20 (Grant options available). The heart screening will take place on Friday October 30th, 2026 from 9:45 AM - 11:45 AM at Meadowlawn Middle School.
Every student can sign up for a screening here. For financial assistance, please scroll past the payment and donation section. Then select “Needs Financial Assistance.” Answer a few questions and your child will receive the ECG for free. We will never turn away a child!
Why take advantage of this electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening?
- This screening will satisfy the Second Chance Act law requirement for student-athletes so they can legally play sports in the 2026-2027 school year.
- The standard physical is statistically proven to be less than 4% effective at detecting any heart conditions, adding an ECG improves those odds to 80-95%.
- ECG screening is non-invasive, painless and takes about 5 minutes.
- Each ECG will be interpreted by a pediatric cardiologist or cardiologist specifically trained for the heart of an athlete. Results will be returned via email within one week of the screening.
🎉 PBIS Event 🎉
All scholars that demonstrate the Lancer Way and do not receive a minor infraction, RTL call/behavior call, major referral during the month of October will receive a bag of chips and could earn a gift card.

Middle School Athletics
Mission Statement
The Pinellas County Schools Middle School Athletics Program is committed to providing students with opportunities to develop physically, socially, and emotionally through organized sports. Our mission is to promote lifelong fitness, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship while supporting the academic success of all student-athletes.
Philosophy
Athletics at each Middle School are viewed as an extension of the classroom. Participation in sports is a privilege that requires responsibility, dedication, and integrity. We strive to create an inclusive environment where students of all skill levels may learn and grow, while upholding the highest standards of conduct both on and off the field.
Program Goals
Encourage personal growth and self-discipline.
Develop teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others.
Promote fair play and good sportsmanship.
Support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of student-athletes.
Foster a positive school culture and sense of community.
Specifics to Meadowlawn Middle School Athletics will be communicated as we get closer to the start of school. Student Accident Insurance (see above) and Athletic Participation Form (below).
Student Accident Insurance
K12 Student Accident Insurance - ENROLL
Student Accident Insurance is available for K-12 and PTC students enrolled in Pinellas County Schools.
Coverage is required for students participating in sports and certain extracurricular activities.
Coverage may be purchased at any time during the 2026-2027 school year.
Voluntary K-12 Student Accident Insurance
If you don’t have other insurance, this plan may be a resource to consider. Additionally, even if you have other coverage, this plan can help fill expensive “gaps” caused by deductibles and co-pays.
Mandatory K-12 Student Accident Insurance (Sports & Activities)
The Pinellas County School Board, like most school boards in the State of Florida, requires students participating in certain school activities to purchase student accident insurance. This requirement will help ensure that every student who participates in certain activities is covered. This coverage is required even if the student is covered by another medical plan or program. There are no exceptions to this requirement as it is school board policy. This policy can be viewed by accessing the following link: School Board Policy 8760.

Electronic Device Policy
📵Cell Phones & Other Wireless Communication Devices📵
Families are advised, the best way to get in touch with their scholar during the school day is by calling the scholar’s school office. We understand that there are times during the day that you may need to contact your scholar, or your scholar may need to contact you; if so, reach out to the front office or appropriate grade-level office: we will be happy to relay any messages to your scholar.

6th Grade & 7th Grade (A-I): Ext. 2036
7th Grade (J-Z) & 8th Grade: Ext. 2037
Pinellas County Schools recognizes the ever-increasing importance of technology in students’ lives and the beneficial role it can play for student education and communication when used responsibly. The possession and use of such devices should not interfere with academic instruction, student safety or a positive school climate.
Wireless Communication Devices:
Middle School scholars must keep wireless communication devices (including Meta Glasses) in the off position and in their backpack/bag/purse throughout the instructional school day and while participating in a school-sponsored activity on or off campus. “Off position” means powered completely off, and is not simply set on a vibrate, silent, standby, hibernation or airplane mode. Electronic devices are not to be visible during the school day. Scholars are permitted to use their wireless communication devices/headphones before and after the instructional school day (prior to 9:20 AM and after 4:10 PM).
Wearable Recording Devices:
Wearable recording devices are prohibited from being used in any manner at school, during school-sponsored transportation, and during school-sponsored activities. They must always be in the off position and stored in a non-visible, secure location, such as the scholar's backpack, purse, or pocket.
Smartwatches:
All the rules applicable to wireless communication devices apply to smartwatches; however, a scholar may wear a smartwatch only in silent mode during the instructional day so there is not to be disruption to the classroom. A smartwatch may not be worn during district and state assessments.
Responsibility/Liability:
Any scholar who chooses to bring a wireless communication device to school shall do so at their own risk and shall be personally responsible for the security of their wireless communication device(s). School Board staff are not responsible for preventing theft, loss, damage, or vandalism to wireless devices brought onto school property, or left on school-sponsored transportation, including any wireless communication device(s) confiscated due to inappropriate use.

Self-Reporting Systems
Say Something
Pinellas County Schools has partnered with Sandy Hook Promise to offer the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System. Say Something allows you to submit secure and anonymous safety concerns to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals BEFORE they hurt themselves or others. Tips made to the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System are passed along to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.
Fortify Florida
Additionally, the district utilizes FortifyFL, a school-related suspicious activity reporting tool that allows Florida students and the community the ability to instantly relay information anonymously concerning unsafe, potentially harmful, dangerous, violent or criminal activities, or the threat of these activities, to the appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials. FortifyFL was created and funded by the 2018 Florida Legislature as part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.
