Tigers celebrate our many volunteers
during Volunteer Week April 21 - 25
I want to take a moment to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to our many volunteers who work so hard to make our campus a most special place to be.
Thank you for taking time to read and study with our Tigers. Thank you for taking time to decorate our classrooms and hallways. Thank you for providing resources and fun events for our Tigers and Tiger families. Thank you for making our staff feel appreciated. The time you spend with our Tigers means so much to them and to our teachers. We love you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the many special things you do for all of us to make WCHE such a great place to be.
As a tiny show of appreciation, our staff and students have made posters and signs to express our gratitude. We're decorating our volunteer sign-in kiosks with them and will have some special treats for you. We cordially invite you to our May 2 Tiger Rally where our Tigers will personally thank you for your generous support. The rally will be in the Gym at 7:40 am. If you can come, please RSVP here.
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal

Mrs. Christina Otwell Named WCHE Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Otwell is a fabulous educator and serves as the Team Leader for our West Cypress Hills Elementary Collaborative Team. This is her third year as a teacher at West Cypress Hills, and it's her fifth year teaching Special Education for the Lake Travis Independent School District. What an honor to be elected by her peers as the West Cypress Hills Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025! Congratulations, Christina!
Here are a few reasons why West Cypress Hills knew that Christina is deserving of this honor:
- Mrs. Otwell supports many students in my STEM classroom. She has been so supportive to me and incredibly supportive to the students. Not only has she changed the lives of the students in my classroom, but her impact spans across the school and the community. Anyone who has worked with her has seen how kind, patient and encouraging she is to the students. Mrs. Otwell is an incredible advocate for students with special needs and has helped our students grow so much this year. I am honored to work alongside such an inspiring educator.
- Christina is amazing at her job. She is student focused and works hard to make all of her students meet their goals. She collaborates with the Gen Ed teachers to help support all students on her case load whether that be to provide in class support, help teachers with accommodations, or helps brainstorm ideas for the general classroom to have all students set up for success. Christina is helpful, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. She holds herself with such poise and composure during ARD meetings and is clear but friendly when talking with families. We are so fortunate to have Christina work on our campus!
- She works tirelessly and will drop anything to help a student, teacher, or teammate.
- Christina is not only our campus sped team leader, she also serves as our district sped team leader. Fulfilling both roles, she successfully advocates for our students and our sped team. She always communicates clearly between administration and our sped team, and she has the best interest of our team and students.
- Christina does so much for our students both at school, and outside of school. She is an incredible team leader for our SpEd department , always available to listen, give advice, and collaborate on ways to support our kids the best we can. Christina has a great ability to connect with the students she services, and find creative ways to meet their needs.
Mrs. Otwell is happily married and has two daughters. She enjoys teaching yoga and hiking in her free time.
Sally McRae is an American professional ultra-mountain runner, author, podcast host, coach, and motivational speaker. She is well known for her mental fortitude, grueling accomplishments in the endurance world; and storytelling.
Our Tiger District Mile Race is Friday, April 25
Go, Tigers, Go!
Nurse Kate Needs Clothing
Sometimes our Tigers have accidents that require a change of clothing.
Our clinic has run out of small undies, pants, and shorts and would be happy to receive new or gently used items for boys and girls if you have any that you can send our way, please and thanks!
We are especially in need of small sizes--size 6 and under.
Returning Student Verification
Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents/Guardians,
We are pleased to announce the opening of Returning Student Verification for the 2025-2026 school year. This process is required to be completed for all students who will be returning for the 2025-2026 school year. If your child will not be returning to Lake Travis ISD for the 2025-2026 school year, please contact your campus registrar and submit the appropriate withdrawal form.
To complete the Returning Student Verification process, the parent/guardian listed as the primary parent in Skyward should log into Skyward Family Access and click on the “Returning Student Verification 2025-2026” tile (refer to image below).
Please note, you will be required to verify and update information on your student, family, and residency. Current proof of residency documentation (fully executed lease agreement, signed closing documents, most recent property tax statement, mortgage statement, or property deed in parent's/guardian’s name), AND a current utility bill (water, electricity, or gas with parent's/guardian’s name) are a required portion of the online form.
While returning students are automatically enrolled for the coming school year, student information must be verified and/or updated annually. Therefore, the primary parent/guardian must complete the verification process for each child before August 1, 2025.
Once you have submitted the online form, the tile will no longer be available in Skyward Family Access under the student’s profile. You can view the online forms that have been submitted by navigating to 1. Main Menu > 2. Online Forms > 3. My Online Forms History (refer to image below).
The completion of this form assists your campus with planning for the 2025-2026 school year. We appreciate your participation!
Sincerely,
Marco Alvarado
Executive Director for Communications & Community Relations
It is that time of year again where we begin to work on our next school year schedule and class lists. The parent input form for the 25-26 school year is open! In making class assignments, our goal is to place each child in a class where he or she can be most successful.
A secondary goal is to also maintain a balance among classes in terms of gender, academic ability, disciplinary and social needs, learning styles, and individual needs of the students. All information shared is confidential and submitted electronically to West Cypress Hills Elementary administration.
We hope to make classroom assignments that will maximize the opportunity for your child’s success. If you have information you would like to have considered in your child’s placement, please complete and submit this form. Please limit your input to the way your child learns and any information we should consider.

Mr. Wernicke of Bee Cave Middle School is hosting a summer running camp!
7/28 - 7/30 from 5 to 8 pm
Registration for Camp Save-a-Watt is now open! PEC’s free online summer camp offers various educational videos, lessons, crafts, and weekly activities to keep the learning going all summer. The eight-week camp encourages kindergarten through fifth-grade students to save energy, learn about electricity, and how to be safe around it.
Campers can also join us for in-person events like Solar Car Derby and Meet a Lineworker. This year, we will be adding two Egg Drop events where campers can put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building an egg-protecting contraption using recycled materials at home. Campers will test the effectiveness of their design as they watch it drop from a PEC bucket truck.
All campers who register before May 16 will receive a free camp t-shirt! Registration closes May 30. Visit mypec.com/camp to learn more and register today.
