From the Principal: From the Principal:

Now that cold weather has arrived, please ensure your child comes to school dressed in layers—including warm coats, hats, and gloves—so they can stay comfortable during outdoor activities.

On the playground front, we are so close to being done! The students are thrilled watching the progress and eagerly anticipating the day the orange fence comes down.

We’ve noticed some of our older students needing extra guidance during lunch. We are actively working on providing them with targeted support and expectations to ensure they have a safe, positive, and successful lunch period each day. This includes staying in their seat and cleaning up after themselves.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support!

From the Counselor: From the Counselor:

October is a great time to focus on respect and what it looks like in our everyday interactions. Respect means listening when others are speaking, using kind words, following expectations, and recognizing that people may have different thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Children are still learning how to navigate disagreements, and these moments provide valuable opportunities to practice treating others with consideration—even when we don't agree.

Families can reinforce respect at home by modeling calm communication, listening to one another, and encouraging children to consider how their words and actions affect others. At school, our younger students learn to use Kelso’s Choices, a set of problem-solving strategies that help children work through small problems independently and respectfully. You can reinforce these skills at home by asking, “Which of Kelso’s Choices could help you solve this problem?” and encouraging your child to try a safe, respectful solution when appropriate. Remember, respect doesn't mean we always agree; it means we can disagree while still treating one another with kindness and consideration.

Let's continue working together to help every student feel known, loved, and learning in our school community!

Warmly,
Jill Singleton
Elementary School Counselor

Weekly Spotlight: Weekly Spotlight:

Today, our 5th and 6th graders had the opportunity to hear an inspiring presentation from Levi Horn, a former NFL player and behavioral health specialist. Drawing from both his athletic background and professional expertise, Levi spoke with students about the power of maintaining a positive attitude, prioritizing mental health, and practicing daily self-care. He shared practical, age-appropriate strategies to help students navigate stress, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills when facing everyday challenges. We encourage you to ask your child about their favorite takeaway from today's visit and keep the conversation going at home!

Preschool and TK both use 10-frames on our whiteboards to track positive behavior—whenever our teachers catch students making good choices, the class earns a dot for their frame! Once a 10-frame is filled, the class earns a party.

It just so happened that both classes filled their frames at the same time and were working toward a Glow Stick Party. Dash Morgan from Preschool had the genius idea to ask, "What if we did our parties together?"

We combined forces and had the absolute best glow stick dance and building party!

Dear Reardan Families and Community,

We have had a wonderful and busy week celebrating our senior athletes, cheerleaders, and band members! Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support and cheer on our Screaming Eagles. Your attendance and enthusiasm mean so much to our students and staff.

Red Ribbon Week Highlights Red Ribbon Week Highlights

This week was Red Ribbon Week across our district, with a core focus on prevention, wellness, and making healthy, drug-free choices. This serves as an excellent opportunity for parents and guardians to talk with your students about staying active, maintaining healthy lifestyles, and understanding the dangers of using drugs and alcohol.

A special thank you goes out to our WDFY (Washington Drug-Free Youth) students and advisors—Darren Mattozzi, Elizabeth Roberts, and Catherine Logwood—for organizing great activities throughout the week. We would also like to give a warm shout-out to Mrs. Drew Gannon for her fantastic help with face painting!

Behavior & School Culture Update Behavior & School Culture Update

At Reardan Middle and High School, we continue to focus on recognizing and reinforcing positive behavior through our Screaming Eagle Bucks program, which students can earn and redeem at our school store.

At the same time, we have noticed some students who are struggling to follow directions and school expectations. In these instances, we are actively reaching out to schedule individual student conferences. Please know that our top goal is always to partner with parents and families to support our students and ensure everyone has a positive, productive experience at RMHS.

Online Safety: Know What Your Kids Are Playing

Many parents know Roblox as a popular game their children enjoy with friends. However, Roblox is actually an online platform where users can create games, interact with other players, and communicate with people they may have never met in real life. Not every experience on the platform is appropriate for children.

Some Roblox experiences contain graphic violence, disturbing themes, mature content, and recreations of past mass shootings. Just as concerning, online users may pretend to be children to gain a young person's trust. Conversations can begin in a game and gradually shift toward requests for personal information, private conversations, photos, or contact through other apps.

Roblox has faced growing public scrutiny over child safety.

What can parents do?

  • Know what games your child is playing. Sit down with them and review the specific games or experiences they access, rather than assuming everything on Roblox is appropriate.

  • Check parental controls. Review content maturity settings, chat permissions, friends lists, and screen-time limits. Block experiences or users that concern you.

  • Talk about online strangers. Explain that someone can claim to be a child without actually being one. An online friend is not automatically a trusted friend.

  • Set clear boundaries. Children should never share their full name, address, school, passwords, or private photos with people they meet online. They should never agree to meet an online contact in person without a parent’s knowledge and involvement.

  • Keep communication open. Make sure your child knows they can come to you if someone makes them uncomfortable, asks them to keep secrets, or sends them something disturbing. They should not fear getting in trouble for asking for help.

Our children face online risks that many of us did not grow up with. Staying involved in their digital lives is just as important as knowing where they go and who they spend time with in person.

Nutrition Services Nutrition Services

Nutrition Services is sharing a little behind-the-scenes look at an exciting event happening next week!

Our first Farm to School event of the year is coming up on Wednesday, October 28! We’ll be hosting a baked potato bar featuring potatoes from the Spokane Hutterian Brethren.

We’re excited to welcome David, who will join us to meet our students and share a little about the potatoes he helps grow. We’ve been busy getting everything ready, and if you’ve ever wondered what a whole lot of potatoes looks like in a school kitchen, look no further! Check out the photos below.

You’ll also find a flyer with more details about the event. We’re looking forward to kicking off our Farm to School events for the year and bringing something fun, nutritious, and locally grown to our cafeteria!
