Superintendent Updates
December 2025
SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE
It is a great day in San Angelo ISD! We are engaged in the work of transforming our district through higher academic expectations, supporting our teachers, safer campuses, bond construction, and stewarding our community's resources. We have a unique opportunity to become a stronger academic district through an aligned curriculum, meaningful professional learning, and implementing new high-quality instructional materials for our teachers to use as a resource. Supporting our teachers is our most important work and we are pouring resources into this effort to be sure every student at every campus has the opportunity to grow and be successful every day.
The administration and Board of Trustees are committed to a plan to close two elementary school campuses effective July 1, 2027, in response to continued declining enrollment. This plan will reduce the number of elementary schools from 14 to 12, effective the Fall of 2027. In addition, the Spring 2026 semester will include a committee of San Angelo ISD parents, leaders, and employees engaging in the work to evaluate elementary school attendance boundaries. The goal of the committee is to provide a recommendation to the Board of Trustees by Summer 2026 for new elementary attendance zones, effective July 1, 2027. It will be important to populate the 12 elementary schools with those students living in the newly adopted attendance zones so that we can be good stewards of our resources and ensure the highest-quality academic program possible for all students. This should not impact magnet and special programs.
I will be communicating with you more frequently over the next two years as we work to transform our school district. By providing a stronger academic program, continuing to be great stewards of our community resources and improving our efficiencies as a district, San Angelo ISD will fulfill our mission. The mission of San Angelo ISD is to engage all students in a relevant and inspiring education that produces future-ready graduates. Above all, students first!

A Joyful December: National Stress-Free Holidays Month
The holidays are upon us—a time for joy, connection, and creating meaningful memories with loved ones. It’s also a season that can bring its own pressures, like planning visits, managing gift budgets, and organizing events. With everything on your plate, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
While traditions and celebrations are meaningful, it’s just as important to care for your mental well-being. National Stress-Free Family Holidays Month reminds us to be mindful of stress and take steps toward self-care. Here are a few tips to help make your holidays more manageable and joyful:
Modify traditions if needed. It’s okay to adjust traditions if they feel overwhelming. Your mental health takes priority.
Learn the power of saying "no." If a commitment feels too much, give yourself permission to decline.
Plan ahead. Use a calendar to stay organized and avoid last-minute tasks that can create unnecessary stress.
Share your feelings. Talk to someone you trust if you're feeling anxious or missing a loved one. You are not alone.
Take time for self-care. Make sure to rest and recharge, even as you care for others.
If you’d like professional support, Care Solace is available to help connect you or your loved ones to mental health services. This is a complimentary, confidential service provided by San Angelo Independent School District.

Mrs. Shamone Minzenmayer Tabbed Most Outstanding Science Teacher
Central High School’s own Mrs. Minzenmayer was named the Most Outstanding Science Teacher by the West Texas Geology Foundation! She received an award and a check in recognition of her outstanding work with students.
She was nominated by three former students and Dr. Joseph Satterfield from Angelo State University. Emily Emerald presented the award on behalf of WTGF, joined by Dr. Holik and Ms. Jessica Garza from ASU.
We are so proud of Mrs. Minzenmayer and grateful for her dedication to inspiring student success!
San Angelo Schools Foundation Awards More Than $92,000 in Grants to San Angelo ISD
TEA Visits San Angelo ISD CTE Programs
San Angelo ISD was also proud to welcome Dr. Lacy Freeman, the Texas Education Agency’s Statewide CTE Coordinator, for a visit to several of our Career and Technical Education programs earlier this month. Dr. Freeman toured SAISD to learn how districts across Texas are implementing Programs of Study and to better advocate for students, teachers, administrators, and industry partners statewide. During her visit, she met with students and staff to hear what’s working well in CTE and how the state can continue supporting districts in preparing students for college, career, and military readiness. Her tour included stops connected to industry-based certifications, strong community partnerships, and recent grants and donations — including Tiny Texans and the Child Development Associate program at Blackshear, the CNA program, Welding and Engineering programs with SME PRIME-supported equipment, and the Plant Science and Floral Design programs with FFA involvement.
Vote for Lake View High School for the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Community Connection School Program of the Year
Lake View High School is a finalist for the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Community Connection School of the Year—and your votes will help decide the winner! 💙🤍
Voting is unlimited and open through January 23, 2026, so vote early and vote often!
This recognition highlights schools that go above and beyond to stay connected with their community. Last month, Vicente Ramos was honored as Lake View’s Community Connector for his incredible dedication to the Northside. In his honor, Optimum donated $1,000 to the Lake View football program during the Chiefs’ home game against Andrews.
Now, Lake View is one of just ten statewide finalists, and the campus with the most votes will receive a $2,500 donation.
Central High School DECA Car Show
Rhythm Rising Excellence for Orchestra Students
Central and Lake View Orchestra students took the stage for an unforgettable evening, performing side-by-side with Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s original electric violinist and string master, Mark Wood.
From powerful solos to high-energy ensemble moments, our students gained once-in-a-lifetime experience — learning from a world-class performer while showcasing their own incredible talent. The night was electric, and the audience could feel every note.
We are so proud of our students and their directors for embracing this opportunity to grow their orchestral skills, stretch creatively, and shine on stage.

THE SCOOP ON SAN ANGELO READS!
United We Read and San Angelo READS! Celebrate Second-Grade Book Giveaway
Whataburger, San Angelo READS! and third-grade students at Crockett Elementary School came together to celebrate literacy during the 6th annual San Angelo READS! Day on December 11.
The celebration kicked off with a special read-aloud at Crockett Elementary School, where Misty Jackson, Operating Partner of Whataburger in Brownwood, read to 60 third-grade students in the school library, bringing the book “Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions” to life.
Across our campuses, students and staff enjoyed book-themed activities, read-alouds, and special visits to celebrate the power of literacy. More than 20 community partners, SAISD staff members, and board members visited our elementary campuses to read to students.
To highlight the day, Whataburger, our San Angelo READS! Day partner, generously provided every 3rd-grade student with a copy of “Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions” by Chris Barton to take home. Thank you, Whataburger, for helping us share the joy of reading with our students. Keep reading, San Angelo!
City Proclamation for READS! Day
At the City Council meeting earlier this month, Mayor Tom Thompson officially proclaimed December 11, 2025, as San Angelo READS! Day! 📚
Thank you to the City of San Angelo for championing literacy and supporting our mission to inspire a lifelong love of reading. We are excited to celebrate San Angelo READS! Day next week and continue growing a community of readers together.
