Year at a Glance

We are excited to roll out an entire year's work of school events, activities, spirit weeks, and more to help all Timberwolves connect to MVHS. ASB has constructed a "Year at a Glance" calendar (live document) for the year in an effort to make sure everyone knows what's happening and how to get involved.

Academic Success Tips

Students can excel in school by making smart choices and adopting positive habits. Encourage your student to review and follow the tips below for academic success.

  • Do homework during free periods. This will allow you to tackle it soon after class, while your notes are still fresh. And if you have a question, you can stop by and ask your teacher for help before you go home.

  • Pick a quiet place to study. Try the school library during the day or the public library at night and on weekends.

  • At home, study somewhere away from family activity. You’ll need a good light and a table or a desk (not your bed!) where you can spread out your notebooks and materials.

  • Listen to music only if it helps you concentrate. Turn it off if it’s a distraction.

  • Consider forming a study-buddy group. Invite friends who are good at different subjects to join so you can help each other. Connect online, through texts or IMs, or talk on the phone. Or make a schedule to get together in person. (But don’t let it become a social hour!)

  • Ask questions in class. Other students might be puzzled by the same thing, and you’ll be doing them a favor if you speak up.

  • Be active in class. Join discussions, share your thoughts and questions, and participate in each activity.

California Healthy Youth Act Information (9th Grade Students) California Healthy Youth Act Information (9th Grade Students)

The California Healthy Youth Act 2016 (CHYA) mandates that every student shall receive instruction to build the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (California Education Code Sections 51930-51939). At Mission Vista, this information is provided/taught to students in 9th-grade courses (Freshman Seminar or AVID). For more information, please click here.

Cell Phone Policy Addition - Wearable Technology (i.e., Meta Glasses) Cell Phone Policy Addition - Wearable Technology (i.e., Meta Glasses)

We at MVHS strictly enforce the District-wide cell phone policy, which prohibits the use of cell phones, wireless earbuds, and smartwatches during instructional time. We want students' focus to be on learning when in class. Recently, we've encountered an increasing number of students with Meta Glasses, which have since been added to the list of technology that is prohibited during class time. The primary concern about students wearing Meta Glasses during class is the ability to record peers and/or staff members, sample coursework, and even test questions, etc., without any prior consent.

We have created a new poster outlining our electronic devices policy -- including Meta Glasses and the like -- to be posted in all classroom spaces. Wearable technology such as Meta Glasses will be treated the same as cell phones during instructional time.

Anonymous Tip Reporting: If You See Something, Say Something Anonymous Tip Reporting: If You See Something, Say Something

MVHS, along with all other Vista Unified schools have an anonymous tip line (see the button below) where all stakeholders (students, parents, staff, community members) can report dangerous behaviors on, around, or related to our campus. Tips reported are completely anonymous (unless the user shares his/her name), and VUSD and MVHS administrators are alerted immediately. In order to keep our school community safe, we ask all stakeholders that if they see something, say something, and the tip line is just one of many ways to do that.

Concurrent Enrollment / COLLEGE CREDITS

High school students can take off-campus courses for advancing to a higher level course in their next school year, or complete a non-sequenced level course and create schedule space for future options. Concurrent enrollment lets you earn college credit for college courses completed while you're still in high school – and those courses also could count toward your high school diploma.
