All student responses to the survey are confidential and no information is provided in a personally identifiable way. Carrie Hein's AP Environmental Science class learned about different mining techniques to extract minerals and how mining companies are responsible to reclaim the land to how it was prior to the mining project. APES students practiced their mining and reclamation techniques on different types of chocolate chip cookies.

The chocolate chips served as the mineral being extracted and helped the miner earn a profit. The time taken to mine the mineral, the equipment used, and how well the reclamation was completed served as fees toward the miner.
