From Our Principal From Our Principal

Our students have been doing a great job of independently entering the school in the mornings between 7:52-8:00am. Please see the list below for which door each grade level should be entering through.

If you are running late, or the door you intended to use is closed, please head to the front entrance on SE 41st. Knocking on doors to be let inside is a safety concern for our students.

Cafeteria Doors FYI - When I am short-staffed I will need to lock the breakfast door at 7:52 (1st bell) so I can open the other cafeteria door for kindergarten arrival. Students needing breakfast can use the opened kindergarten door instead if the breakfast door is locked before 8:00. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Early Release Wednesday 9/16 โฐ

PPS has scheduled Early Release Wednesdays throughout the year to allow staff to engage in 3 hours of professional development in the afternoon on those days.

Our first Early Release Wednesday is scheduled for September 16th.

Early Release Days: 9/16, 10/21, 12/16, 1/20, 2/17, 3/17, 4/21, 5/19.

  • School ends at 11:50 AM on these days.

  • School buses will provide transportation to their usual routes at 11:50am.

  • Please calculate your child's arrival time to their bus stop by checking their regular bus schedule (e.g. how many minutes after 2:30 does it usually take for them to get home)

  • Breakfast is served as usual at 7:45am in the cafeteria.

  • Morning arrival procedures are the same.

  • Lunchtimes for all K-5 classes will be earlier in the morning between 9:40-11:05. Students will still have the usual 20-minutes to eat "brunch".

IMPORTANT DISMISSAL INFO: Please complete a new Dismissal Plan Form if your child's Early Release Wednesday plan will be different from their usual Wednesday dismissal plan.

Staff Meeting Snack Donations ๐Ÿฟ

Last year our wonderful Richmond families donated snacks and beverages for our extended 3-hour staff meeting days, and it was a really amazing way to show our teachers how much we appreciate them. I would love for you to join me in continuing this act of kindness for our staff.

If you would like to donate a snack or beverage on one of our Early Release Wednesdays, please make a note here so others can see what is already being provided.

Donated items can be dropped off at the main office on the morning of our early release day. Non-perishable items can be dropped off anytime that works for you and we will store it in the office for you.

Thank you in advance for your generous donations! We really appreciate it. ๐Ÿ’™

September Fire Drill Update ๐Ÿšจ

Unfortunately, our intercom system went down right before the scheduled fire evacuation drill yesterday, so we had to begin the drill without my usual intercom announcement. Although our students were not warned with an intercom announcement prior to the fire alarm going off, we evacuated the building in record time (2 minutes & 50 seconds!) and everyone did so in a very orderly fashion. Way to go, Richmond!

Richmond Site Council ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

Our first Site Council meeting is tonight 9/9 from 4-5pm. I want to thank our parent reps for volunteering their time to this committee. For our Fall meetings we will focus our discussions on "rightsizing schools in PPS" and what the Richmond community needs during this process.

Here are our Site Council members for the 2026-2027 school year:

  • Alec Perkins
  • Amy Kyler-Yano
  • Sarah DeMott

  • Karen Wilson
  • Anne Scheiman
  • Wakana McCollister
  • Sparrow West

Join Us for Breakfast in the Garden September 20th!

Come spend the morning with other Richmond families helping care for our school grounds. At this monthโ€™s gathering, weโ€™ll weed along the fence lines and in the learning garden, pick up litter, sweep bark chips back into the playground, and possibly harvest apples.

All ages and experience levels are welcome. Come for the whole morning or stop by when you can, there will be a job for everyone. We have lots of tools and gardening gloves, but weโ€™d love it if folks could bring some bonus tools if you have them: apple picker, pressure washer, leaf blower, weed whacker.

Meet in the learning garden, weโ€™ll be at school from 9-12. Snacks provided.

RSVP and add to calendar: https://calendar.app.google/i3ND2zShtwFPrdeM6

Do you want to belong? Join the Richmond PTA!

Do you want to belong? Join the Richmond PTA! We are the parents who make things happen. We are the parents who support our kids and staff. We are the parents who support each other.

This is our annual membership drive and you can belong to PTA for $17 for the year. In addition to the swagger of being a "Richmond PTA card-carrying-member" you will also have a voice in important issues like our annual budget, vote on PTA leadership, and vote on new processes to make our organization better.

If you are interested in joining, please fill out this membership [link] form and then pay your dues using the Square Space [link] webpage.

Join Konstella!

Konstella is the main way the PTA and communicates with the school community and for parents/caregivers to connect directly with other parents/caregivers.

If you haven't yet, go to www.konstella.com and Find Your School to join the Richmond Elementary community.

Once you've selected your student's classroom, consider joining a Social Group (grade level, neighborhood, etc.) or a committee you are interested in supporting.

If you are looking for ways to get involved in your student's classroom, consider joining the Classroom Support Committee as a Class Rep.

Classroom Representatives provide support for Richmond students and teachers and are the communication link between teachers/the PTA and fellow parents and caregivers within that classroom, often using Konstella. It's also a great way to connect with other families and have fun supporting our students with special events throughout the year.

Richmond Fall Apple And Pear Sale Seeks Leader(s)-in-Training

The fall apple and pear sale in partnership with Kiyokawa Family Orchards is a delicious Richmond fundraising tradition.

Kiyokawa sells us delicious fruit at wholesale prices; we sell it to our community for retail prices and raise thousands of dollars for the PTA. (In 2025, it was just shy of $6,500.)

Kasandra Griffin has been the lead coordinator for several years and is looking for one or more co-captains/ new leader(s)-in-training, to assist and learn in 2026, and become the leader(s) in future years.

It is a fun chance to do something big to help the school community, almost entirely on your own schedule. There is only ONE DAY of in-person work required, sometime in mid to late October, for the actual fruit distribution (on site at school), but as a leader, YOU get to choose the date for that.

If you are interested in signing up to help, or asking some questions, please contact kasandra.griffin@gmail.com. Work starts soon!
