Meet Your EL Teacher!
Gloria Jacques (Mrs. Jacques)
Hi! Β‘Hola! Namaste! Nyob Zoo! Bonjour! ΠΏΡΠΈΠ²Π΅Ρ! Xin chΓ o! ππ½
My name is Gloria Jacques. I have been in Education for over 30 years, and this year is my 5th teaching ESL, and I love it! I taught Spanish for many years, and transitioned to ESL due to my extreme love for learning about languages and new cultures. My husband and I have 4 children who all attended HSSD. In my spare time, I enjoy singing, running, traveling, learning new languages and spending time with friends and family. This year, in addition to helping my students with English, I will continue to focus on ways to help my students feel seen, heard and appreciated for their unique gifts and try to showcase and instill self-pride in them whenever possible. I'm still learning and growing from my students, families, colleagues and the world, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you this year!π

Ways to Communicate with Your Child's School:
How Can Parents Support English Learners at Home?
Understanding the WIDA ACCESS Test...
English learners are assessed annually for their English proficiency using the WIDA ACCESS test. They are evaluated in four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The testing window is between December 1 and February 1. The test consists of four sections; one for each domain. Students are then given a score of 1-6 in each domain. Reaching a composite score of 5.0 indicates proficiency, and will place the student on "Monitor" status for the following 2 years. Monitor status means they no longer receive direct EL support, but their progress is monitored in the classroom with their peers.
