Newsletter #1

Dear Families,

It has been wonderful welcoming students back into the gym for Physical Education (P.E.)! I have really enjoyed getting to know our students, building positive relationships, and establishing our P.E. routines, procedures, and expectations. We have had an exciting start to the school year, and students are already making great progress as they develop important movement skills, build confidence, and learn to work together.

To begin the school year, all students in grades K–5 participated in team-building and cooperation activities. These activities encouraged students to work together in a positive and meaningful way. Students practiced and demonstrated important skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and cooperation. They learned the importance of listening to others, sharing ideas, encouraging their classmates, and working together to overcome challenges. I have been so proud of their participation and effort!

Students in grades K–2 have also enjoyed exploring different movement patterns and participating in activities that develop spatial awareness. These activities help students understand where their bodies are in relation to others and how to move safely in our gym. In addition, students began working on some skills such as underhand and overhand throwing, catching, and rolling. These skills are important building blocks for many activities, and we will continue to revisit them throughout the year in different ways.

Students in grades 3–5 have also had a busy and exciting start to P.E.! We have practiced and revisited important movement skills, including throwing, catching, rolling, and coordination, through a variety of activities and challenges. One of our main areas of focus has been accuracy and control. Students are learning about directing objects toward specific targets.

Next week, students in grades K–5 will begin working on soccer skills, starting with kicking and ball control. Students will practice dribbling (moving with the ball), passing to teammates, and shooting toward a target. They will also practice working together, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and building confidence as they learn and apply these new skills

As the year continues, students will build on their movement skills, improve coordination, and develop teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship through fun, engaging activities. I am so proud of their effort and enthusiasm so far and look forward to a great year of learning and growing together!
