The StingraySentinelNews for the Families of Duval Charter School at Southside

Monday, October 7th, 2019 Monday, October 7th, 2019

Note from the Principal's Office:

Parents/Guardians,

We want to thank you for a wonderful Fall!! We have launched school and are off to a great start.

We had postponed our Cherrydale Fundraiser as we wanted to give a break after back to school supply shopping. That being said, we still need to raise funds for some of our enrichment activities and wonderful events at school. Fundraisers through other organizations often mean we receive 50% or less of your funds.

We are going to put together a specific "Ask" letter next week letting you know what funds are needed for what items or pots of money and see what donations can be collected. This would bring 100% of your funds directly to our classrooms.

Groups such as Odyssey of the Mind or specific athletic teams may hold individual fundraisers to support their efforts.

Our Fall Festival raises money for your child's school while also being a wonderful school community event. Funds raised this year will be for "positive student rewards," "teacher appreciation" and "technology."

We hope you are able to attend and support our school while making friends and getting to know the DCSS family!

~Principal Sauer

K-3 Book Character Parade

K-3 Character Day Parade:

What: Book Character Dress-Up Day

Choose your favorite book character and come to school dressed up as that character.

Who: K-3 Students

When: Thursday, October 17th

Time: 2:00 p.m (Back car loop)

HERE’S THE PLAN: Each student will bring a copy of a book, or comic book, that includes the character they are representing. The book must be one that the child has either read or listened to an adult read. They must have the book with them (or a small poster of the book cover) because they will carry this during the parade at 2:00.

ARE THERE ANY RULES ABOUT THE COSTUMES?

Yes! Make sure the costume covers the same area as

the uniform. Please wear closed toe shoes. Masks may not be worn in the classroom; only during the parade! Nothing ghoulish or scary is acceptable. You may bring accessories (i.e.: a Honey Pot for Winnie the Pooh), but they cannot be toy weapons or any other object that might be considered threatening. If your child is not wearing a costume, the DCSS school uniform must be worn.

Parents are invited to come to the “Character Parade” at 2:00 p.m. You’ll want to arrive by 1:45 p.m. Bring your cameras and enjoy! After the parade is over, parents must sign their child(ren) out in the office if they intend to take them home.
