Great Grizzly Give!
From PTO:
Our PTO needs your help!
We are currently far below our fundraising goal, and without additional support, the PTO will have to make difficult cuts to the programs, activities, and resources we’re able to provide for our school.
These funds directly help support our students and staff throughout the school year. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.
If you’ve been meaning to contribute, now is the time! Please consider donating and sharing with friends and family who would like to support our school.
Thank you for helping us make sure our students continue to have the support they deserve!
The Great Grizzly Give Campaign is Here!
Our annual PTO direct giving campaign runs September 22- October 4 with a goal of raising $12,000 to support our students and teachers. PTO funds directly impact classrooms by providing resources, enrichment, and special opportunities that make a difference every day.
Every gift, big or small, helps us reach our goal — thank you for supporting our Grizzlies!

Walking Wednesdays!
Walking Wednesdays are here!
Students are invited to participate in Walking Wednesdays during their lunch recess. Kids can walk the designated route with friends, stay active, and track their progress by earning punches on their lap cards for each lap completed.
We're looking for parent volunteers to help make this program a success by punching lap cards and encouraging our walkers during recess. Volunteering is a simple way to support healthy habits and school community involvement.

Let's get moving, Grant!
District - Panorama Survey
Dear Families,
For the past few years ICCSD has implemented universal screening for Social Emotional Behavioral Health for grades 3-12 two times throughout the year. Once again this 26-27 school year, students in grades 3-12 will complete the Panorama survey. Grades 3-5 survey questions are accessible here and grades 6-12 survey questions are accessible here.
Consent for your student to participate was determined when you completed online registration. Students with consent to participate will complete the survey in October and again in the spring (Mar/Apr).
We appreciate learning more about your student and their experience and will use this data to identify opportunities to improve how we support all students in our school. Please contact us if you have any questions about this process.
Thank you,
Mr. Turnis
School Lunch Payments - MySchoolBucks
Families can pay for school meals through MySchoolBucks and there’s never a fee!
You will first need to log in or create an account. You can find those options in the top right section in the menu on MySchoolBucks.
Then, once you have created an account, you can review all charges to your student’s account, set up automatic payments and also set up low balance email notifications.
Daily Breakfast
We invite your children to join us for breakfast daily! We know how busy mornings can be for families, and our school breakfast is a convenient, nutritious way to ensure your child is ready to learn. Eating a healthy meal at the start of the day is vital for student success; it nourishes young minds and improves concentration, memory, and energy levels. Help your child start their day off right with us!
Breakfast Serving Times: 7:40

Lunchroom and/or Recess Volunteers
Hello Grizzlies,
Thanks to those who volunteered last year! All volunteers enjoyed their time being with our Grizzlies! We are rolling this out again for the 26-27 year.
Expectations are in place for students in both locations, and a volunteer would be paired with an experienced staff member. Some cafeteria duties include opening containers (milk, juice, etc..), giving out napkins and spending some time interacting in a positive manner. Playground expectations are also in place. Duties are primarily connected to being visible and available for student needs while monitoring for safe choices.
This sign up link offers opportunities to sign up for specific days and times. We included the lunch/recess schedule so you will know the grade level and location.
The district does have protocols for volunteering. This link will direct you to the online background check.
Not only do we appreciate any support, we are also excited that parents have the opportunity to get into the school and add to our positive and supportive atmosphere!
Thanks!
Mr. Turnis
District - Flu Vaccine Clinic
The Iowa City Community School District will once again offer influenza (flu) vaccine clinics in our schools this year. This service will be provided through a partnership with Walgreens Pharmacy.
You can view the full clinic schedule and make an appointment on our district website.
On the day of your appointment:
- Arrive at the school at your scheduled time.
- Bring your pharmacy insurance card.
- Individuals without insurance may qualify for a vaccine voucher through Walgreens and still receive a flu shot.
- Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you have questions about the influenza vaccine or need help registering for the clinic, please contact Walgreens Pharmacy at (319) 341-6153.
REMINDER: FREE & REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION DEADLINE
Dear Families, Students, and Staff,
If your child qualified for free or reduced-price meals last school year, we want to remind you that the grace period for continuing those benefits is ending soon.
Free or reduced-price meal eligibility from the previous school year continues for the first 30 days of the new school year or until a new application is processed. If you have not submitted a new application for this school year, your child’s current eligibility will expire on October 6, 2026.
Beginning Wednesday, October 7, students without a new approved application will return to paid meal status. To help avoid any interruption in benefits, we encourage families to submit a new application before October 6. You can complete the application online at myschoolapps.com.
If you have already submitted an application or received confirmation from the school district that your child is approved for benefits for this school year, no further action is needed, and you may disregard this message.
We encourage you to apply even if you're unsure if your family will qualify. Financial situations can change at any time during the school year, and applications are available year-round. If your circumstances change, feel free to apply at any time.
Important Note: Meal benefits cannot be applied retroactively. Any meal charges incurred before an application is approved remain the family's responsibility. Additional information is available in our Guidelines for Negative Accounts.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact our Nutrition Services Office at (319) 688-1021 or email Jackie Andresen at andresen.jackie@iowacityschools.org. We are happy to help.
Sincerely,
Alison Demory

Birthday Boulders
BIRTHDAY BOULDERS
The celebratory boulders have been fun! For a $10 donation to the PTO, you can “rent” the large boulders in front of the building and paint a special birthday message for your child on their big day.
Here’s how it works:
Sign up for a date to “rent” a boulder. Reserve both if you’re extra ambitious! The $10 reservation fee goes straight to the PTO support teachers, students, and staff at Grant.
Pay through our secure payment portal (you’ll get instructions after reserving your date)
Come up with your birthday message design idea. Is your kiddo into sharks? Cover the rock with blue and put Jaws on there. Does your child love all things strawberries? Paint a bushel of them around their name. It's all up to your imagination.
Gather your materials—we’ll advise you on the best kind of paint to use. You can begin painting after 4pm the day before your rental.
All the guidelines and details can be found on the sign up sheet >> Reserve a Birthday Boulder
