Jessyca Harper

Ms. Harper is a proud boy mom who was a part of Lawnside Public Schools graduating Class of 2008. She comes from a family with deep roots in Lawnside, including multiple generations of Lawnside School graduates and relatives who have also worked there. She fondly remembers her years at Lawnside School, with friendships that remain steady to this day. Now the school’s social worker, she provides school-based counseling, serves as a Child Study Team case manager, and has been the Lawnside Leopards cheer coach for the last few years. Ms. Harper graduated with honors from Rutgers University, is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and served as a volunteer firefighter for Lawnside. In her spare time she enjoys doing nails and making crafts. Ms. Harper feels honored to give back to the school that helped to shape her while watching her own child continue the tradition.

Henry Lay

Graduating from Lawnside Public School in 2012 set the foundation for who I am today. I carried the lessons I learned there, discipline, teamwork, and a strong sense of community, into Sterling High School, where I graduated in 2016, and into every challenge I’ve faced since.

After high school, I felt a calling to serve, and I enlisted in the United States Army. I spent five years on active duty overseas as a Telecommunications Operator and Signal Support Team Chief, managing critical communications systems that kept missions running and lives protected. Currently, I serve in the Army Reserves and am on track to complete 20 years of service before retirement. My time in the military taught me resilience, leadership, and the power of serving something bigger than myself.

Transitioning into law enforcement, I now proudly serve my community as a police officer, using the skills and discipline I honed in the military to make a tangible difference every day. At the same time, I am pursuing a double major in Criminology and Cybersecurity at Drexel University, combining my dedication to public safety with my passion for technology and security.

Looking back, I am grateful for every step of this journey, and it all started at Lawnside Public School. The values, support, and encouragement I received there continue to guide me, and I am proud to represent my alma mater as a veteran, a public servant, and someone committed to making a meaningful impact in the world.

If you are a graduate of the Lawnside Public School and would like submit your information to be highlighted in the newsletter, please send your submission to ronnjohnson@lawnside.k12.nj.us by the last day of the month.

Message From The Superintendent: Dr. Johnson Message From The Superintendent: Dr. Johnson

Dear Students and Parents,

As we continue our educational journey together, we want to remind everyone of a fundamental truth: Learning Never Stops! Education extends far beyond technology devices and classroom walls—it happens everywhere, every day. Whether students are wondering why the sky changes colors, solving challenging problems, exploring new interests, or navigating friendships, each moment presents an opportunity for growth. For our students, we encourage you to stay curious, ask questions, embrace mistakes as learning opportunities, and remember that your natural curiosity is your greatest strength. Parents, you are your child's first and most important teachers—when you answer endless questions with patience, explore new places together, eat as a family, or share your own life experiences, you're demonstrating that learning is a lifelong adventure and a family value worth celebrating.

Learning opportunities surround us in every aspect of daily life. In the community, museums like the Peter Mott House, libraries, and cultural events offer rich educational experiences that bring classroom concepts to life. Even routine activities like problem-solving, budgeting, planning, and overcoming challenges contribute to practical life skills and emotional intelligence. Technology can enhance this journey through educational apps, virtual tours, and online resources that supplement traditional learning. We challenge every family this month to discover something new together—whether it's learning about a different culture, trying a recipe from another cuisine, exploring a local historical site, or starting a hobby project.

Our school is committed to fostering a love of learning that lasts well beyond graduation by creating engaging experiences, encouraging critical thinking, celebrating diverse learning styles, and providing resources for learning at home. Remember, education is not preparation for life—education IS life itself. Every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and become better versions of ourselves, regardless of age. Let's continue building a community where curiosity thrives, questions are welcomed, and learning never stops!

"The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you." - B.B. King
