PARP Week 2026 at Roslyn Elementary Schools
In association with the PFA (Parent Faculty Association), Heights, East Hills, and Harbor Hill elementary schools brought reading to life with Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) Week, featuring a playful monster theme and daily activities designed to inspire a love of reading among students. Students participated in creative, literacy-focused activities that encouraged imagination, storytelling and family engagement. On Friday, January 9th, administrators from across the district visited classrooms at Heights to be mystery readers for the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson.
On Wednesday, January 14th, East Hills students were treated to a visit from mystery readers who read aloud the book, A Bad Case of the Almost, by Janet Sumner Johnson. Among the administrators participating in the read-alouds were Superintendent Allison Brown, and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Michael Goldspiel.
Harbor Hill Elementary School will celebrate the love of reading with their students on National Read Across America Day in March.

ROSLYN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Soda Showdown
Students in Roslyn Middle School’s business class went back in time to recreate the famous blind taste test between Coke, Pepsi, and RC Cola. Before the experiment began, nearly 90 percent of the class confidently declared Coke as their favorite soda. But opinions shifted once the labels were removed, with 75 percent of students choosing either Pepsi or RC Cola instead of Coke. The results sparked laughter, debate, and a clear lesson; marketing matters, and sometimes what we think we like isn’t what we actually prefer.
Medical Mystery Day at RMS
Students in Mr. Sawicki and Mr. Schmitt’s Medical Detectives classes had the opportunity to put their skills to the test as RMS teachers and administrators joined their classes as medical patients. Each teacher was asked to role play as a patient with a particular disease and students acted as medical professionals, interviewing patients and analyzing patient data to help diagnose the disease. Ultimately, every student had the chance to obtain the information needed to diagnose and then present their findings to their classmates and defend their diagnoses.
