Flu Season is upon us!

Protect yourself and your family this season with an annual flu vaccine for everyone in your family who is 6 months and older. While the timing of flu season is unpredictable, seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and last as late as May. CDC recommends that people get vaccinated by the end of October, if possible. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against influenza virus infection.

You have the power to protect your family against flu this season. Get yourself and your family a flu vaccine. Fight the Flu!

Flu Myths vs. Flu Facts

Influenza (Flu) | IDPH

Influenza, commonly called "the flu," is an infection of the respiratory tract caused by the influenza virus. Compared with most viral respiratory infections, such as the common cold, influenza infection often causes a more severe illness. Typical influenza illness includes fever (usually 100 degrees F to 103 degrees F in adults and often even higher in children) and respiratory symptoms, such as cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, as well as headache, muscle aches and extreme fatigue.

Immunization | IDPH

Immunizations, also known as vaccines are one of our greatest defenses against many serious illnesses. The Illinois Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) Immunization Section conducts programs and initiatives designed to make sure each child in your family has up-to-date immunizations. Keep yourself and your family protected - get immunized! Who should be immunized?  Everyone! Review the CDC vaccination schedules for infants and children, preteens and teens, and adults found in the right-hand column under RESOURCES.
