New Elementary School Name
The Bellefonte Area School District Board of Directors will utilize an ad hoc committee of the Board to consider names for the new elementary school. The Committee will then make a recommendation to the Board for action on April 9, 2025. Suggestions may be received from members of the community, from elected officials, from school district personnel, and from students. Interested contributors should see Policy 701.1, available on the District website, for more information and guidelines. Input can be emailed to publiccomment@basd.net or sent to 318 North Allegheny Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823 with a deadline of March 13, 2025.

Cartwheel Mental Health
Our school district partners with Cartwheel, a virtual mental health care provider, to make it easier for students and families to access valuable services such as therapy, parent guidance, and more. There are openings available for this school year, and no waitlist! Cartwheel appointments can take place during or outside of school hours. If you would like to request a referral, or just learn a little more, please reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Knight or our school social worker, Ms. McClatchey to learn more about Cartwheel. We will help you with every step of the process.

BASD Orchestra Gala
The Orchestra Gala will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at the Bellefonte Area High School Auditorium beginning at 6:30pm. This amazing event will feature every string player in the district as the Elementary, Middle, and High school orchestras each take their turn on stage. The event concludes with a Grand Finale with nearly 200 string players on stage at the same time. This unique opportunity will not only celebrate each of our orchestras but also allow us a chance to see the progress our ensembles have made this year.

Energy Drinks: A Jolt and a Crash - Not the Fuel for Student Success
Energy drinks are a popular choice for people looking for a quick energy boost. However, they are not a good option for students trying to maintain consistent energy throughout the school day. Instead of providing sustained energy, energy drinks deliver a jolt followed by a crash, leaving students feeling tired, sluggish, and unable to concentrate.
Energy drinks can be dangerous to your health, especially for children and teenagers. Young people are more susceptible to the negative effects of these drinks than adults. Consuming energy drinks can lead to several health problems, including:
- Heart problems, such as irregular heartbeat and increased blood pressure
- Anxiety and insomnia
- Stomach problems, such as nausea and vomiting
- Dehydration
- Seizures
To ensure your students can do their best in school be sure they are:
- Getting enough sleep
- Eating a healthy diet
- Drinking plenty of water
- Exercising regularly
If you have any concerns about energy drinks, speak with your healthcare provider.
