Welcome Back!!!

Parents and Students,

We are excited to welcome everyone back for the 26-27 school year. It is going to be a tremendous school year for our students and the Geneseo School Community. We look forward to learning and growing together each and every day!

As always, our custodial and maintenance staff did a tremendous job preparing our building over the summer. We are excited to welcome many new students and staff to Millikin this school year. We will introduce and welcome them all at our opening day assembly.

Please take a few moments to go through the links below in this newsletter. These links contain important information regarding procedures, routines, and schedules.

Classroom assignments will become final on Wednesday, August 5 at 4:00 p.m. for students in first-fifth grade. You can find out your child's teacher by logging into your child's Family Access Account.

We look forward to greeting Kindergarten parents for orientation on August 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Millikin. A reminder that Kindergarten Orientation is for parents only. Our Back to School Open House is scheduled for August 10 between 4:00-6:00 p.m. for all students and parents.

It is going to be a great school year at Millikin Elementary!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

This year, our elementary schools will be using Skyward’s online parent-teacher conference sign-up system. This new process allows families to conveniently schedule conference times online, view all appointments in one place, and receive immediate confirmation.

Instructions and additional details will be shared closer to conference time, including specific directions for signing up. We look forward to offering a more streamlined and flexible conference experience for our families.

Math Grades K-5

Starting this year, all elementary math grades will be reported via a standards-based approach. More information can be found HERE. In addition, K/1 specials will use standards-based reporting.

Bus Buddy Volunteers

We have an opportunity for parents, grandparents, or other guardians to help on the first day of school. One of the programs our schools institute to help ensure our young and new students arrive safely home is called "Bus Buddies". This is where a veteran student riding the same bus as a younger student are teamed up so they can help the student get on and off the bus safely. We need help from adult volunteers to be "bus buddy runners". The job mainly includes introducing the two students on the first day of school and setting them up for success.

Mrs. Lowe will explain further directions to volunteers when they arrive. This program is extremely important to ensure the safety of our students. If you are available to help on the first day of school with this role, please consider signing up on the following link: Bus Buddy Sign Up.

Elementary Food Protocol

Snacks need to be pre-packaged and not homemade. If the class has a student with a food allergy, the classroom teacher should work with the school nurse to determine if a particular snack is safe to be served in the classroom.

**There is no approved list of safe snacks.**
