A Message from our Principal, Mrs. Mitchell A Message from our Principal, Mrs. Mitchell

We’ve had some pretty incredible achievements in our Music and PE programs these past few weeks! Our PE teachers have taken on a biking unit for our K-2 students and a unicycle unit for our 3-5 students. Our students’ growth has been so exciting! Over 100 students have learned how to ride a bike and many more have become more confident riders. Mr. Pulfrey and Mr. Gregory’s dedication to this unit and their desire to teach such an important life skill to ALL students here at HV is something I know so many of us are grateful for. There’s nothing like the joy I’ve seen on so many faces as they’ve started pedaling on their own for the first time!

Our 1st and 2nd graders performed in a music concert this week. Both grade levels were well rehearsed and prepared. They sang beautifully, played instruments with confidence and put on wonderful performances! A huge thank you to Mrs. Aldinger for her time and effort in preparing our students for such fantastic shows.

Oregon's SEED Survey Coming Soon Oregon's SEED Survey Coming Soon

Starting in May, Sherwood schools will administer the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey to students in grades 3-11, as required by Oregon law. This survey, from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), gathers student feedback on their educational experiences to help improve support for schools and students statewide. The survey covers topics like academic opportunities, access to resources, and connection to school. It takes 10-20 minutes to complete.

Parents/guardians can decline their student’s participation. Students can also decline to participate by selecting the “I will not take this survey” option at the beginning of the survey, or they can skip any or all individual survey questions. For more information, including the survey in its entirety, please visit the ODE’s SEED Survey website. To access the opt-out form, please see the links below.

Parent Input for Student Placement Parent Input for Student Placement

Each Spring, we give parents an opportunity for input regarding their child’s placement for the next school year. This is not a place to request teachers, as teacher assignments aren’t finalized at this point. As your child’s caregiver, you provide valuable information and insight and we’ll take your thoughts into consideration. We do our best to create balanced classes and cannot accommodate every request that is asked of us. With about 500 students, you can imagine placement is a very long, thoughtful process. The input form will be available until May 11th.

Conferences Conferences

On May 8th and 9th, we will be hosting spring conferences at Hawks View. These days will be no school days for our students. All families will have the opportunity to sign up for a time to meet with their child's teacher. Sign-ups will be coming home via ParentSquare between 2:30-3:30 tomorrow (Friday, April 25th), so please be watching for those. Also, please pay special attention to the conference format, as some grade levels host student led conferences and some host parent-teacher conferences.

These days are set aside for the sole purpose of conferencing with families. If you need to miss due to a family trip or other reasons, teachers are not required to make up conferences at another time. If there are work samples or other artifacts that can be sent home, teachers will do so.

During conference days, our Book Fair will be open in the library for families to book shop! Additionally, our Lost and Found items will be near the library/front office. We have accumulated quite a few items over the last few months, so please come look for any missing items! All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year.
