Dear Wiggin Street Families,

We wish you all a wonderful Spring Break, and we will be excited to see the kids return Tuesday, April 7th. Monday, April 6th, is a Teacher In-Service day, so there is no school.

This update includes pictures from the Battle of the Books Competition where our students took 1st place! Also, the Awards Luncheon at The Annex was a hit, and there is information included below regarding free events for students. Lastly, we enjoyed the Mobile Ed Skydome Planetarium today.

Check out all the pictures from this week and upcoming events below.

Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
Principal, Wiggin Street Elementary

Congratulations to our 2026 Battle of the Books Team! Congratulations to our 2026 Battle of the Books Team!

We are so proud of the Wiggin Street Battle of the Books team for getting 1st place in the competition this week! Also, congratulations to Highland for getting 2nd place, and all the teams for their hard work reading 70 books and memorizing titles and authors. They worked so well as a team communicating with one another. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Stetler and Mrs. Eilbacher for helping prepare the students and spending their lunch time to do so. It is greatly appreciated!

2026-27 Class Lists and Teacher Requests

Creating class lists is a thoughtful process that involves many factors. Our teachers meet with the next grade level team and other staff members who work closely with students to ensure that classes are balanced. Academic needs, social-emotional needs, and peer dynamics are just a few of the considerations used in this process. This work also continues throughout the summer as we become aware of new enrollments. For these reasons, we believe it is best to wait until August to share final class lists.

If you have an educational reason for requesting a teacher, please submit your request in writing by email to me at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us no later than May 1, 2026. Also, if you know that your child will not be attending Wiggin Street next year, please let us know as soon as possible.

Grades 3-5 Spring Ohio State Tests Grades 3-5 Spring Ohio State Tests

Students in grades 3–5 will be taking the Ohio State Tests in April. Detailed testing dates are listed below. Please make every effort to schedule appointments around these dates, as it can be challenging to complete all make-up testing when there are multiple absences.

Would you like to better understand the tests and learn how to help your child be successful? Please review this helpful resource from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.

How Families Can Help at Home

Support strong routines

  • Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep, especially before testing days
  • Provide a healthy breakfast each morning
  • Arrive at school on time to avoid feeling rushed

Build confidence with simple practice

  • Encourage daily reading (books, articles, or even directions/recipes)
  • Have your child explain what they read to build comprehension
  • Practice basic math facts and problem-solving in real-life situations

Practice test-taking strategies

  • Remind your child to read directions carefully
  • Encourage them to take their time and check their work
  • If they get stuck, skip the question and come back to it later
  • Use strategies like eliminating wrong answers to make the best choice

Promote a positive mindset

  • Reassure your child to simply do their best
  • Remind them that it’s okay if something feels challenging
  • Encourage effort over perfection

Limit stress

  • Keep evenings calm and routines consistent during testing weeks
  • Avoid overscheduling activities on testing days
