A Message from Dr. Delgado:
Wildcat Families,
We were so excited to welcome our students back to campus last week! Our teachers and staff spent January 5th deeply engaged in analyzing our academic data and preparing targeted plans to ensure our students are ready to shine during this spring’s STAAR administration. As of today, we have 58 instructional days remaining until our first STAAR exam on April 15th, when all grade levels will take the Reading/Language Arts assessment.
In the coming weeks, we will launch tutorials for selected students across all core content areas. These small-group sessions will focus on the individual needs identified in our assessments, ensuring every student receives the support they need to grow and succeed. You will find all STAAR testing dates listed below so that we can work together to help our Wildcats do their best every day—beginning with today.
As a reminder, we will observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 19th. As we reflect on his legacy in the weeks ahead, we encourage our students to think about their own dreams and how those dreams can inspire their goals, actions, and futures.
Our basketball teams continue to represent WVMS with Wildcat Pride, both on and off the court. We look forward to returning to competition this week as we face Dessau Middle School.
For our 8th grade families, this month marks the beginning of the high school planning process. Students will meet with Early College High School on Thursday, January 15th, and will visit Connally High School on January 22nd for the annual “8th Grade Invasion.” These experiences will help them explore programs, pathways, and opportunities as they begin selecting their high school courses. Parents, please watch for information about upcoming sessions where we will assist you in navigating the online course selection system with your child.
We are excited for the weeks ahead and grateful for our continued partnership with you. Together, we will make this semester a strong and successful one for every Wildcat.
With appreciation,
Dr. Emily R. Delgado
Principal, Westview Middle School

🏀 Wildcat Athletics Updates
Our Wildcat athletes have returned from the break with incredible energy, dedication, and pride! Our students and coaches continue to put in the hard work needed to sharpen their skills, strengthen their teamwork, and represent Westview with excellence both on and off the court and field.
Over the next several weeks, our athletic program will be in full swing with exciting matchups, including our highly anticipated WMS vs. DMS Rivalry Game, which will be featured LIVE on YouTube! We invite all families to tune in, cheer loudly from home, and show our Wildcats the strength of our community support.
A full calendar of upcoming athletic events is included below so you can stay connected to game days, times, and locations. We encourage you to join us in celebrating the athleticism, sportsmanship, and Wildcat Pride that our athletes and coaches demonstrate so faithfully every day.
Let’s support our Wildcats as they compete, grow, and continue to make us proud! Go Wildcats! 🐾💜💛
📱 Cell Phone Reminder
At Westview Middle School, our goal is to maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. As a reminder, cell phones are not allowed to be seen or used during the school day. This includes hallways, classrooms, and common areas.
To support consistency across the district, we will be following the PfISD Cell Phone Consequence Ladder for any violations:
OffenseConsequence 1st OffenseDevice confiscated — must be picked up by a parent or guardian. 2nd OffenseDevice confiscated and lunch detention assigned (documented in Skyward). 3rd OffenseDevice confiscated, ½ day of ISS, and a parent meeting required. Chronic IssuesMay result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or a temporary ban on bringing the device to school.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home. When students are free from distractions, they can better focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.
💜 Go Wildcats — focused and ready to learn!
Safety Protocols
New Transportation Badge System
Beginning this month, the PfISD Transportation Department will introduce a new Transportation Badge System for students who ride the school bus. This system is designed to make transportation even safer and more efficient for our Wildcats.
Students who ride the bus will receive a new ID badge from the transportation department. They will simply scan their badge when getting on and off the bus, allowing district staff to ensure students are always on the correct bus and helping families stay informed. This system helps prevent mix-ups and gives everyone greater peace of mind—nothing more, and nothing to worry about.
These new badges are multi-purpose, too! Students will be able to:
-
Access breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria
-
Check out books in the library
-
Wear the badge daily as part of our regular school ID expectations
If your child does not ride the bus, they will continue using their current school badge, and no changes are needed.
We appreciate your partnership as we roll out this helpful system that supports student safety and smooth daily routines for all.
Lunch Visits with Your Wildcat
We love seeing our Wildcat families join their students for lunch! Families are always welcome to bring outside food and enjoy lunch with their child at our picnic tables. These moments mean so much to our students, and we truly enjoy having our families here on campus.
If you would like to have lunch with your child, simply stop by the front office when you arrive. Our staff will call your student out of the cafeteria, and you can briefly sign them out and back in once lunch is finished. It’s a simple process, and a wonderful way to stay connected with your child during the school day.
We hope to see you at lunch soon!
Attendance Matters
Help your child perform at their highest level this year! 🏫✨
- Our Year to Date Attendance is 93.1%.
- 6th Grade = 94.1%
- 7th Grade = 92.5.%
- 8th Grade = 92.5%
- Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school or in the afternoon so your child can be counted present.
- Every school day matters—just a few missed days can add up quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make every day count for your child’s success! 💙
Tardy Consequences
⏰ Tardy Update: Way to Go, Wildcats!
We’re proud to share that our students have been doing a much better job getting to class on time! Thank you to all of our families for supporting this effort — your partnership makes a big difference. When students arrive to class promptly, they are more engaged, prepared, and ready to learn from bell to bell.
While we’re celebrating this progress, please remember that we are still issuing consequences for excessive tardies according to our campus Tardy Consequence Ladder:
3Level 1 Warning 6Level 2 Warning 91 Day After-School Detention 122 Days After-School Detention + Parent Conference 15 or more1 Day of In-School Suspension (ISS)
# of Tardies
Consequence
Thank you for continuing to encourage your student to be on time every day. Every minute in class counts toward their success!
💜 Let’s keep up the great work, Wildcats!
