The Pulse of the Pride

June 6, 2025
Lyme School Friends,
We have had another busy and productive two weeks at our school!
The May Pole tradition was attended by many community members as well as the school community. Our K-5 students under the direction of Ms. O'Leary did a wonderful job performing. Thank you to all that came out to support the children and their efforts. We also appreciate the flowers that were donated for the event. Thank you!
Wow! What a bike/walk to school day at the Lyme School. We must have had over 75% participation. It wouldn't surprise me if that is the highest participation rate for elementary schools in the United States. It was awesome to see so many of our students biking and walking to school.
This was our last full week of school before summer vacation. Teachers and students are still working hard in their classrooms finishing up all kinds of different tasks at different grade levels. We plan to work hard right up to the end of our school year.
Our K-3 teachers have also started packing up their rooms in preparation for the Asbestos Abatement Project starting on June 14th. We need to move everything out of the K-3 wing. This is planned to be a summer long project. We hope it is completed for the start of next school year. If not, we will need to fall back on various contingencies that are already planned (please just know that we have a variety of back up plans in case the project takes longer than we hope). We are currently working on a way to ensure regular updates on the project over the summer for those that want to follow the progress.
Please know that the building will be completely closed and turned over to the construction company on June 14th until the abatement is complete. This means you could email jdentremont@lymeschool.org or call 802-359-7048 if you need something and someone will be back in touch.
We end school a bit earlier this year and have field day for all students on June 11th. Lower schoolers will be participating in activities in the morning while middle schoolers will be participating in activities in the afternoon. We will close our day around 2:45 PM with the 7th grade ringing the bell to officially close the year. This will be a fun day for students and staff to celebrate the 2024-2025 school year. After school is over, the PTO is sponsoring the Pizza Potluck at post pond starting at 4PM.
8th grade graduation is at 4:30 PM on June 11th. We would like our 8th graders back at school around 4:15 dressed and ready for graduation. All are welcome! If you would like to donate flowers from your garden for this celebration, buckets will be outside our doors starting the 10th. Thank you in advance.
Have a great weekend!
The next newsletter will hit your inbox after school closes with pictures from our many celebrations to close the year!
As always, thank you for your partnership and please reach out if we can be of assistance.
Regards,
John P. D'Entremont, Principal

Happy (Last) Friday, Lyme School Community!
What a beautiful morning we had for Bike/Walk to School Day this past Wednesday, and such a fantastic turnout! A huge THANK YOU to all the parents and staff who showed up early to help with setup (and stayed to clean up!), those who rode or walked alongside our students, and those who brought goodies to fuel our hungry travelers. A special shoutout to Amy Gubbins, who took the lead in organizing this year’s event. All of your time, energy, and generosity made the morning feel like a celebration of community and wellness.
With the year winding down, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for the heart and energy you brought to making this school year so special. With our small but mighty group, we’ve accomplished so much in support of our teachers, staff, and students, and in building a strong, connected school community.
It takes a village to make all of this happen, and what a wonderful village we have!
This year, the PTO was proud to support and organize:
- The Back-to-School Picnic Potluck + Ice Cream Social with the Lyme School Board
- The Boohoo/Woohoo Breakfast for new kindergarten families
- Provided funding for the Artist-in-Residence (Jay Ryan)
- The Lyme School Directory
- The Virtual Giving Tree
- The Kids Holiday Shop at CCL's Jingle + Mingle
- The Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheons + Gift Baskets
- The Lyme School Garden
- The Dessert Bar for Teachers + Staff during Teacher Appreciation Week
- The Bike/Walk to School Day
- The launch of In the Lymelight, our brand-new, student literary magazine!
To everyone who participated in these events and projects, and to those who donated time, effort, and resources throughout the year, thank you. Whether you baked treats, helped with setup, donated supplies, or simply showed up to lend support, your contributions made a meaningful difference. (Also, if you've donated baked goods in labeled containers, please pick them up from the Teachers' Lounge! Thank you!)
Special thanks to Amy Gubbins, Amy Ricker, Brigette Cameron, Emily Battles, Susan Wasp, Tracey Saunders, and Trisha Gautreau for the time and heart you poured into planning and leading many of these efforts. And thank you to all our class parents for the many ways you supported your classrooms!
We’re also grateful to our local partners/supporters: the Lyme Foundation, the Lyme Utility Club, CommunityCare of Lyme, the Ricker Family, and the Cullen family of Hanover Brick n Brew, for their generosity this year.
If you’re someone with a new event/project idea, a helpful skill, or just the desire to be more involved in shaping the school experience, we’d love to have you on board! Whether you want to lead a project or just lend a hand from time to time, there’s a place for you in the PTO. Email us at pto@lymeschool.org to learn more or get involved.
Also, if you'd like to share feedback about your experience with the PTO events/projects, please consider filling out this short 5-mins survey. Thank you!
Lastly, we hope you join us for the PTO's final celebration of the year:

Four Winds
Because flowers are so beautiful, it's hard to remember that they are actually utilitarian structures that plants have evolved in order to reproduce. In our final Four Winds unit of the year, "Flower to Fruit," we explored these fascinating structures and how they aid plants in seed production. Each child had the opportunity to dissect a flower and match the parts they found with the parts labelled on a diagram. The dissection opened up many opportunities for wonder---Has this flower been pollinated? Did we find ovules or had they transitioned to seeds? What can we find if we look at this structure under a magnifying glass? This inspiration of wonder, in students and volunteers alike, is one of the things that makes this program so special. We concluded with an art project where the students used their knowledge of a flower's parts and functions to create their own flower using pipe cleaners, cotton balls, and construction paper. We were amazed at their creative inventions! If you would like to volunteer with Four Winds next year or have any questions about the program, please contact Adrienne Flower at aflower80@gmail.com.

Student Results for the New Hampshire Statewide Assessments
Grades 3-8 students have completed the annual state assessments (NHSAS). All students completed tests in Reading, Writing, and Math. 5th and 8th graders also completed a Science test. Parents can access the test results through the parent portal in ALMA, our student information system.
Once you log into ALMA, you will see a “test results” tab. Click on this tab and you will see a green button that takes you to the test results in the New Hampshire Department of Education Family Portal.

FUN SAFE SUMMER!
Hello Lyme School families!
As summer approaches, we want to wish everyone a season filled with sunshine, fun, and relaxation! Whether your plans include travel, camps, or time at home, here are some simple tips to help keep the fun going safely all summer long.
🏊♂️ Water Awareness
Always supervise children near pools, ponds, lakes, or the ocean—even if they can swim.
Make sure kids wear life jackets when boating or near deep water. HOT TIP: State law in NH requires one wearable life preserver for each person in a boat. All children age 12 or under must wear an approved vest or jacket at all times.
Teach children basic water rules: no running near pools, no diving in shallow water, and always swim with a buddy.
☀️ Sun & Heat Safety
Use sunscreen with SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours (or after swimming).
Encourage hats, sunglasses, and light clothing for extra protection.
Keep kids hydrated—water is best!
Take breaks in the shade or indoors during peak heat (10am–4pm).
🚲 Outdoor Play & Safety
Make sure helmets are worn when biking, skateboarding, or scootering.
Choose safe play areas away from traffic and always review road safety.
Insect repellent can help avoid mosquito and tick bites when hiking or playing in wooded areas.
📱 Screen Time & Digital Safety
Create and empower your kids to have a healthy balance between screen time and outdoor time.
Keep an open dialogue about internet safety—especially on social media or games with chat features.
Set screen-free times, like during meals or 1 hour before bed, to support good sleep habits.
🧠 Mental Wellness & Rest
Summer is a great time to slow down and recharge—don’t overschedule!
Encourage journaling, reading, or quiet hobbies for calm moments if your family needs it.
Stay connected with friends or family to support emotional health.
📚 Keep the Brain Active
Visit the Converse Free Library for free events and jump in to the summer reading program!
Try fun learning activities: cooking, puzzles, stargazing, writing stories, or time in nature.
Just 15–20 minutes of reading a day helps keep young minds sharp for the new school year!
💛 Final Thought
We hope this summer brings your family joy, adventure, and rest. Thank you for being part of our Lyme School Community and making the 2024-2025 school year one of learning, fun connection, and growth! We still have a few days left all together and they are going to be FUNTASTIC.
With gusto,
Mrs. Stanton

Summer Reading information is now available. This is also posted on the school website. The slides contain information for grades K-8, including lists of recommended titles from various organizations. For rising K-5th grade students, focus on maintaining an active habit of daily reading. For students in rising grades 6-8, there are assigned books and work to complete for ELA for Ms. Fox. Ms. Fox and I are meeting with all rising 6-8th grade students to talk about summer reading and offer book checkouts. Grades K-5 met with Ms. Judy to hear about the CFL summer reading program. See the CFL website for details. The kick off party is next Tuesday! Hope to see you there.

Update from the Design lab
These small-town kids put on a great show while representing our school and our town at the Western Edge Robotics Competition in Long Beach, California last weekend. They competed against teams from around the country and over 30 countries. The Lyme Lions were also paired up with South Dakota and Tennessee teams for a special collaborative mission. It was a memorable experience for all of us, and I'm super proud of all the hard work and commitment our team displayed all year. Thank you to the parents, extended family, and community members. Hypertherm, Lyme Foundation and the Jack and Dorothy Byrne foundation for the support.

PE Elective News
Another game, another set of champions! This time, team red, down a player due to absence, defeated a previously undefeated blue team to bring home the team tournament play trophy. Ultimate ball was the name of the game and this fast paced game of possession allows for students to make quick decisions using fast feet and passing skills.
This is not only an awesome game to play, but a great one to watch!
Kindergarten Spanish
Kindergarten Spanish students have learned the beautiful, authentic Spanish song "De colores." This song celebrates the vibrant colors and sounds of springtime. Students enjoyed singing it, creating choreography, and bringing each line to life by sculpting with playdough.
Please feel free to enjoy the song at home by clicking HERE. I hope you have enjoyed all of our Spanish songs this year!
Primary PE News
Hopscotch anyone? Students in the early elementary grades traveled back to “ the olden days” of outdoor fun games. We have been able to bring those games indoors and review the locomotor movements is hopping and jumping as well as balance and coordination.
Students made their way through several hopscotch activity areas in groups of three, taking turns , counting, and following a pattern. “Old school” games reinforce several learning milestones, and allow students to have fun in the process.
