Celebrating Our Learners with Special Education Needs
This week, we had the absolute privilege of spending time with some of our incredible staff, who support our children that have special learning needs, along with their whānau. These are our learners who require Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to help support their unique learning journeys.
It was a heartwarming opportunity to sit down with families, reflect on their children’s progress, and celebrate the many successes (big and small) they have achieved while at Vogeltown School. Whether it’s learning to ask for help, completing a task independently, or simply coming to school with a big smile, every step forward is a milestone worth recognising.
One of the true highlights of these sessions was hearing the enthusiasm and pride from our amazing Teacher Aides. These incredible women work closely with our children every day, providing not only educational support but also emotional encouragement, consistency, and a sense of belonging. Their passion, dedication, and kindness shine through in everything they do.
We are so lucky at Vogeltown to have such a committed team behind our tamariki. Our Teacher Aides go above and beyond to ensure that every child, no matter their learning needs, is given the opportunity to succeed, grow, and feel valued as part of our school community.
At Vogeltown School, we believe in inclusive education where every child is celebrated for who they are. Thank you to our whānau for your ongoing support, and to our staff for the mahi they do daily to make our school a place where every learner can thrive.
LEARNING CONFERENCES
Attending face to face learning conferences is a really valuable way to strengthen the connection between home and school. These meetings give whānau and kaiako the chance to sit down together, share insights, and celebrate the progress and successes of each child. They also provide an opportunity to talk through next learning steps and how we can best support your child both at school and at home. Your presence at these conferences shows your child that their learning is important and valued.
Looking at our current bookings it’s fantastic to see that many families have already confirmed their interviews, with some rooms sitting above 70% attendance.
However, there are still plenty of opportunities for whānau to book in and be part of these important conversations. If you haven’t yet made a booking, we warmly encourage you to do so, either using the Skool Loop app or by giving the office a quick call. Every conversation makes a difference, and we would love to see all whānau represented.
HUATOKI CLEAN UP
Kindness to Papatūānuku – Huatoki Team Adventure
As part of our Kindness to Papatūānuku unit, the Huatoki team went on an awesome adventure! We rolled up our sleeves and carried out a big rubbish clean-up around our kura and the Huatoki Domain. It was fantastic to see everyone so enthusiastic about caring for our environment by collecting rubbish and preventing it from reaching our oceans and waterways.
The next step in our journey is turning this rubbish into something creative – we’ll be recycling it into unique pieces of wearable art. We are really looking forward to sharing our creations in Week 10!
TARANAKI SYNDICATE TRIPS TO PUKE ARIKI
Last week the Taranki team were very excited to take a bus ride to Puke Ariki to learn all about our oceans. This is what some of our children had to write about it:
Zhenya Rm 2: We went on a bus to the museum. When the bus started to drive it rumbled! I learned how to measure fish so this is how to measure fish. I had a ruler to measure my fish and if it was too small I threw it back into the sea.
Aeva Rm 2: We went on a bus to go to the museum. We learned about our oceans. Upstairs we saw the megaladon. We wore sea costumes. We went on the boat.
Layla Rm 2: We went to Puke Ariki museum. We learnt that we need to keep our oceans rubbish free. We went on a boat and wore a life jacket. We did a scavenger hunt and we made creatures with pipecleaners. We measured the fish and if it was too small we needed to throw it back.
