TEACHER TALKS
Meet Mr. Harrison!
College: I studied graphic design and art history at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. My major focus was in printed media and logo design, and my minor focused on 20th century, modern, and contemporary art history. If you ever need an art history nerd on your trivia team, I'm your guy! I'm currently pursuing my master's degree in Special Education at West Chester University.
Career: I'm a brand new teacher! I've spent the past couple of years working as a substitute, most recently as a building sub at Upper Darby High School. I began my new career as a full time teacher at Stonehurst in February. I teach first grade Autistic Support and although I never expected life to lead me here, I'm so glad to have found my path to teaching.
About me: I love the outdoors and I'm happiest when hiking or camping with friends. I’m a big music nerd and I love collecting records and going to concerts. I love to travel and I've lived in 6 states including Pennsylvania (Florida, Georgia, Washington, New Mexico and Colorado) but I think I’ll stay put in the City of Brotherly Love.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
MENTAL HEALTH MONTHLY
Happy May, Stonehurst Family! My name is Mrs. Sanders and I am the School Social Worker at Stonehurst. This is the Mental Health Monthly section of the newsletter. The goal of the section is to reduce the stigma associated with mental health and provide quick tips, information, and resources related to mental and behavioral health. I look forward to promoting and supporting the mental health of the Stonehurst community. Please remember that this content is for informational purposes only and she should not be considered a substitute for professional advice or consultation with mental health professionals. As we prepare for the end of the school year, I wanted to provide you with a list of community resources.
NURSE'S NEWS
Summer Break is coming! A few reminders…
Any student with medication in the nurse’s office must have it picked up by June 10, 2026 or it will be discarded. Please contact the nurse for arrangements.
All 2nd Grade students will need an updated dental exam on file for 3rd grade. I strongly encourage you to have this done over the summer and turn in the exam form in September.
All 5th grade students will need an updated physical exam for 6th grade. If you have not already turned one in, please schedule now so your child’s health records are up to date for the start of the school year.
Enjoy your summer!
SPECIAL'S SPOTLIGHT
News from the Art Room
We had another successful Arts Fest!! We even had a special guest appearance from Mr. Chisholm! Thank you to all the families who visited and to all the students whose hard work this year brought the show together.
Have a fantastic summer, and keep drawing!
CLASSROOM CHRONICLES
Former students of Mrs. Harkin’s, Mirella and Joseph, proudly read the biographies they worked so hard on to our current first grade EL students.
Making signs to welcome our friends from Charles Kelly who will be joining us next school year!
COLOR DAY FUN!
5th grade visited Lankenau Hospital for a lesson on how to
take care of their growing and changing bodies.
Mrs. Kraiza’s class had fun making slime with the occupational and speech therapists.
This month, our Bilingual Buddies met to read and analyze a poem about birds. Buddies supported newcomer students by helping them read the poem, identify rhyming words, and trace the text to strengthen literacy skills. Following the reading activity, students applied their creativity by designing and creating bird feeders to place outdoors for local birds to enjoy.
LOOKING FORWARD...
