New York State Assessments

It’s that time of the year again. NYS Assessments are just around the corner. Our school community has been working hard to meet our academic goals throughout the school year. Students take assessments throughout their educational journey to allow educators to monitor learning and growth. It’s critical that students participate in taking these assessments. They are one of the measures we use for placement in advanced courses and for Academic Intervention Services (AIS). For more information on the importance of your child taking the NYS Assessments, please check out the following link:https://secure.smore.com/n/426df

Career Day is Coming Up!

We’re excited to host our annual Middle School Career Day on Thursday, April 10th! Students in grades 5–8 will have the opportunity to meet a variety of professionals from our community and learn about different career paths. This is a fun and engaging day that helps students explore their interests, ask questions, and start thinking about their futures. We’re so grateful to our presenters for sharing their time and experiences with our students!

Social Emotional Learning - The Positivity Project

Our school continues to use the Positivity Project for our social emotional learning curriculum. April and May character strengths include Fairness, Humor, Leadership and more! The theme when we return from break is Appreciating Beauty and Excellence, just in time for Earth Day 2025! Additionally, our school continues to partner with Sweethearts and Heroes as part of our SEL curriculum. On Friday, April 4th, several middle school classes participated in activities with Josiah of Sweethearts and Heroes.

PBIS is also an integral part of SEL in our middle school. PBIS incorporates a restorative approach to teacher managed student behaviors and includes a reteaching component and contact home. Our goal is to partner with families to support positive behaviors in our school. Teachers use Riverbucks to acknowledge the appropriate behaviors. Students have the opportunity to enter raffles and attend special events with their bucks. In April, the PBIS team will raffle off Walmart Gift cards and in May, the raffle prize will be season tickets to Great Escape!!!
