WEEKLY HAWK

February 10-14, 2025

WEEKLYHAWKFebruary 10-14, 2025

Your Input Needed!

Dear Homestead Elementary Parents and Families,

As Mr. Hardy shared, he is retiring from his principal role at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. On behalf of Cherry Creek School District (CCSD), we express our appreciation for his dedication to our schools. While replacing Mr. Hardy will be difficult, we are confident that strong candidates will emerge through the collaborative interviewing process. Homestead Elementary School and CCSD will soon begin the process of selecting the new principal. We are excited to work with the school community in the selection process.

As part of the proceedings, we invite you to share your thoughts about the priorities, goals, and values at Homestead Elementary School as well as desired traits of your future leader. Please submit your feedback through this HOM Community Survey. The information gathered will be utilized to develop search criteria and elements of the principal selection process.

Following the screening and interview processes, the finalists will interview with the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Woodward at 720-554-4203 or by email at hwoodward@cherrycreekschools.org

We look forward to working with the Homestead Community on this important endeavor.

Thank you,

Heather Woodward

Executive Director of Elementary Education

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart is approaching, and all students at Homestead will have the opportunity to compete in timed and skills competitions related to jump rope.

While our school will not be participating in the fundraising aspect for the American Heart Association, we encourage families who wish to contribute to do so voluntarily. If you would like to register on the heart website, here is the link: http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=11259&pg=company&company_id=483466

Throughout the month of February, prizes will be awarded to the top jumpers in each class based on performance and effort. Please note that prizes will not be awarded for fundraising efforts, as our focus will be solely on individual skills and achievements in physical education.

We appreciate any contributions made to the fundraising initiative, but please remember that our rewards will emphasize athletic performance, not fundraising.

Ms. Brownell looks forward to seeing the students demonstrate their skills while also promoting cardiovascular fitness. Go Hawks!

Box Tops for Student Council

Dear Parents,

Student Council is very excited to re-introduce the Box Tops program to our Homestead community!

It is a great way to raise money for our school and these funds will specifically go toward helping Student Council with activities and events.

Even better news is that cutting individual Box Tops is a thing of the past. Box Tops has transitioned to a digital system that counts the Box Tops you purchase just by scanning your receipts.

Here is how it works:

1. Download the Box Tops for Education App. https://www.boxtops4education.com/s/get-the-ap

2. Buy participating Box Tops products.

3. Scan your receipt or submit a digital receipt within 14 days of your purchase. The app identifies eligible products and earnings are credited to your designated school (Homestead)

4. If you shop at Walmart, connect your Box Tops and Walmart accounts. You’ll earn Box Tops for Homestead- No scanning required!

See a list of participating products at BTFE.COM/PRODUCTS

Thank you for your support!

Important Information!

All Visitors to our School:

We are so happy to welcome visitors and volunteers into our building this year. Whenever you come to Homestead, please bring your driver's license or state issued ID with you for check in.

Playgrounds After School:

Please help us make sure all of our kids are heading home right after school by staying off the playground equipment until 3:15 pm

Dogs:

We love them, but, please do not bring them onto school property. We have found that even on a leash, dogs can still present a risk to kids…some are afraid, some are allergic. Please help us make sure they feel safe here at school by leaving your dog at home. Thanks so much!

Bikes and Scooters:

“Walk Your Wheels”…please remind kids to walk their bikes and scooters in crosswalks and once they get onto school grounds. This reduces the risk of accidents with pedestrians.

Cell Phones and Smart Watches:

Students need to keep their cell phones and smart watches in their backpacks, turned off, during the day.

Back Parking Lot Helpful Hints

  • For everyone’s safety, please end all cell phone use before entering the parking lot. The traffic in the back lot goes ONE WAY only. Enter from the north side and exit through the south side. DO NOT ENTER AGAINST THE ARROWS!
  • There is no left turn out of the back parking lot onto Homestead Parkway. Vehicles must turn right.
  • Please pull your vehicle all the way up to the crosswalk when possible before dropping off or picking up your child.
  • Please have your child enter and exit the car from the PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. Drivers may not exit vehicle in the drop off lane for any reason. If you need to assist your child, please find a parking space.
  • If you have dropped off your child, you may pull out and pass the cars that are curbside in order to exit the parking lot. Please pull forward slowly and anticipate that the drop off lane merges back into one lane after the crosswalk.
  • Please only use the designated crosswalk when going to and from the parking lot. It is very important to show our kiddos where it is safe to cross, even when they are accompanied by an adult.
  • Please remember that there are hundreds of kiddos walking next to moving cars – please drive slowly and attentively!
