Principal’s Weekly Update

Thank you all for an incredible week! As we navigate October, I am continually inspired by the energy, dedication, and community spirit shown across our preschool through 8th-grade classrooms. Here are our important updates and announcements as we head into the upcoming week.

Fall Break Reminder: No School Oct 12–13

  • There will be no school on Monday, October 12th, or Tuesday, October 13th for a much-deserved Fall Break.

I hope all of our families take this time to rest, get well, enjoy the wonderful autumn weather and seasonal activities, and come back refreshed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday, October 14th!

Important Reminders & Next Steps

  • Field Trip Permission Slips & Payment: Please remember to turn in your child's field trip permission slip along with any required fee. Students must have both submitted to participate.
  • Financial Assistance: We want every student to be able to participate! If your family needs financial support, please contact the main office, and we will gladly assist you.
  • Family-Teacher Conference Request Forms: If you haven’t already done so, please turn in your conference request form as soon as possible. Teachers will be sending out confirmation of your scheduled conference times next week.

🏆 October Count & Attendance Challenge Celebrations!

We had an outstanding Attendance Challenge Week and fantastic participation during our Spirit Days! Thank you to every student, parent, and staff member who prioritized showing up every single day.

Thanks to your hard work and dedication:

  • 2nd Place District-Wide: Fairview earned 2nd place across the entire district for the best attendance during the October Count window! To celebrate this achievement, the entire school will be rewarded with a school-wide pizza party!
  • 100% Attendance Rewards: We had 132 students achieve perfect attendance throughout the challenge! Every student with 100% attendance enjoyed an ice cream treat on Friday.
  • Raffle Winners: Out of our 132 students with perfect attendance, three names were drawn for our grand prizes:

🚲 Bicycle Winner: Congratulations!

🍟 McDonald's Gift Card Winner: Congratulations!

🐔 Chick-fil-A Gift Card Winner: Congratulations!

Thank you again for making this year's October Count such a massive success. Your daily presence makes our Fairview community strong! Have a wonderful, restful Fall Break! We will see all of our scholars back in school on Wednesday, October 14th.

Help Us Feed Our Amazing Fairview Staff!

Family and Teacher Conferences are right around the corner! While each individual family conference is just 20 minutes long, our amazing teachers and staff will be putting in a couple of very long days to ensure they can connect with every single family.

To say thank you for their hard work—and to keep their energy high—we love providing them with dinner during conference week.

As a school, we are covering one of the evening meals, but we would love your help fueling our staff on Wednesday, October 21st! We have 50 wonderful staff members to feed, so any contribution you can make—big or small—makes a huge difference.

If you are able to bring a dish, or treat to share, please let us know so we can prepare by October 14th.

Here's how you can let us know (you only need to do one):

Denver Zoo Field Trip for 7th & 8th Grade Students:

Our 7th and 8th graders are heading to the Denver Zoo on Friday, October 30th! Students will participate in the interactive Good Neighbors to Wildlife: Make It Safe program. Through this hands-on science curriculum, students will trace the journey of a migrating bird—navigating both natural challenges and human-made obstacles. They will evaluate environmental factors and collaborate on actionable solutions to make our schoolyard and local community a safer habitat for native bird species.

  • We Need Chaperones! To ensure a safe and successful trip, we are looking for parent and guardian volunteers. Chaperones do not have to pay for admission.

  • Action Required: If you are interested in chaperoning, please complete the online WPS Volunteer Background Check Form through the district portal as soon as possible. Background checks must be cleared prior to the trip date. Please reach out to Ms. Kaas @ hkaas@wps.org, or the main office once you have submitted your form.

At Fairview, we use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to focus on rewarding positive choices rather than just punishing mistakes. Staff award ClassDojo Points when students lead by example.

  • PBIS School Store: Students can spend their points at our School Store, run by the Student Council. Store deliveries will occur every other week, starting the first week of September, giving students time to save up points for bigger prizes!

  • Action Item for Families: If you haven't connected to your child's ClassDojo account yet, please do so today! It’s the best way to track their points, celebrate their progress, and message directly with their teachers.

Birthday Bash! Birthday Bash!

User uploaded image

Celebrating our students is one of our favorite things to do, and our monthly Birthday Bash is a long-standing Fairview tradition that lets us honor every single child while keeping classroom instructional time focused and disruption-free. It truly is the best of both worlds!

On the first Friday of every month, we host a school-wide celebration for all scholars with birthdays during that month. Families are invited to send in a treat with their student to share with their class on this special day.

  • Next Birthday Bash: Friday, October 2nd

  • Who We Are Celebrating: All students with a birthday in October

If your child has a birthday in October free to send a birthday treat with them on Friday, October 2nd so we can give them the celebration they deserve! Thank you for helping us make our students feel special while keeping our learning momentum strong.

We love having families involved in our school community, and extra hands help keep Fairview running smoothly! Whether you are interested in chaperoning field trips or helping out around campus—such as reading with students, assisting at recess, grading, laminating, filing, or helping in our school garden—we would love your support.

To ensure the safety of all scholars, all volunteers and chaperones must complete a background check before starting. Please visit the WPS Parent & Community Volunteers webpage to fill out and submit your WPS Background Check Application. Thank you for partnering with us to make this a wonderful school year for our kids!

Dragon of the Month : Dragon of the Month :

We are excited to continue one of our favorite Fairview traditions—Dragon of the Month! Each month, our teachers will nominate and highlight a student who goes above and beyond in demonstrating our school values and setting a positive example for their peers.

If your child is selected, you will receive a personal invitation to join us for a special celebration ceremony, held on the first Thursday of every month right after school from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM. We can’t wait to celebrate our stellar scholars throughout the year!
