Wasmer Weekly Update
August 17, 2025
August 18 - August 22
Beginning of Year Updates
Wildcat Families,
What an amazing two days of school. The joy and excitement is unlike any other time of year! Our students spent the first days of school building their classroom communities, practicing expectations, and sharing stories from the summer. As we approach the first full week of school, your student will begin to dive into content area. This means, you can absolutely start asking the question "What did you learn today?" (I promise you, it's not "nothing!") Thank you for being on our team!
🌟 Meet the Counselor 🌟
Hello, Wasmer Wildcats! My name is Mrs. Kipper, and I’m so excited to start another great year together! As your school counselor, my job is to help every student feel safe, happy, and ready to learn. I work with students in the classroom, in small groups, and one-on-one to teach skills like making friends, solving problems, and managing big feelings.
I’m also here to support parents and teachers—so if you ever have questions, concerns, or ideas, please reach out! You’ll see me visiting classrooms, helping with school events, and cheering students on every step of the way.
Let’s make this year full of kindness, learning, and fun!

đź’™ Meet the Social Worker - Mrs. Westerby đź’™
Hello, Wasmer Wildcats! My name is Mrs. Westerby, and I’m so excited to be your school social worker. My job is to make sure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn each day. I work with students one-on-one, in small groups, and in classrooms to build important skills like making friends, solving problems, showing empathy, and working together as a team.
I’m also here for families as a bridge to resources in our community. Whether it’s finding support for basic needs, connecting you to mental health services, or helping with school-related challenges, I can help you find the right tools and people to make things easier. My goal is to ensure our students and families have the support they need—both inside and outside of school—to thrive.
Whether you need a listening ear, guidance, or help finding resources, I’m here for you. Together, we can make this year one full of kindness, growth, and success!

Staff:
Thank you for going above and beyond this week to welcome kids back to Wasmer. The amount of thought, preparation, and love that went into each detail was simply amazing. The smiles from students said it all!
Parents:
Thank you for trusting us. With a new school year, we recognize this brings change. You've handled it with grace! Pick-up locations may have changed. How you communicated with your student's teacher may have changed. Regardless, we thank you!

3rd Grade Note for State Fair (August 22nd)
Dear 3rd grade parents and guardians,
On Friday, August 22nd, third grade students will be going on a field trip to the Nebraska State Fair. This opportunity will provide great experiences in Nebraska’s “Largest Classroom.” Please be sure your child wears comfortable walking shoes and dresses appropriately for the weather. The bus will be leaving Wasmer at 8:30, so please be sure that your child is on time to school and has eaten breakfast. Sack lunches from the school will be delivered to students at the State Fair, so if your child has any food allergies, please let us know as soon as possible. The bus will then return to Wasmer by 3:00.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email us.
