Hello Wauwatosa Montessori School Community,

Spring is in the air! Check out the March classroom newsletters below to see what is in store for our students this month! It's such an exciting time of year because just like the tulips bloom, so do our students. We love to see the growth in our students.

We introduced our March virtue of Humility in our assembly this week. We recognized students who exemplified our February virtue of Justice and the AP students created a very fun interactive presentation to show the whole school what justice means! We are very proud of all of our students who were recognized as well as the AP students who created the presentation. Thank you to Ms. Libby for being our Grace and Courtesy Team Facilitator and organizing this event.

Thank you to Ms. Jenice and the classroom staff for inspiring our students to participate in a variety of themed experiences this week as we celebrated Read Across America!

Carline and Playground Reminder

Thank you to everyone who has been following the carline procedures which help with safety. Please be sure to follow the carline procedures, including pulling up the first available spot (not in front of the main door), staying in the line, and staying in the car. You are also welcome to park in the parking lot and walk your child to the door as well.

Further, as a friendly reminder, the parking lot is used for students who go out on a walk with their class and for recess 11:30-12:30 and is not available for parking during school hours. Please be sure to park in the main parking lot during school hours.

Thank you for your cooperation with this!!

Staffing Update

I am excited to share that Stephanie Krellwitz will be joining our team as part-time Special Education Teacher! Stephanie earned her Master's Degree in Special Education, and also has a Bachelor's degree in ASL Studies. Stephanie comes to us with a Cross Categorical Special Education license, a Deaf and Hard of Hearing license, an Art Education license and an Alternative Education license. Over the course of her career, she has served as a teacher for the deaf/hard of hearing and art teacher. Additionally, she is a Montessori parent. Ms. Isa and Mr. Nen are continuing to support as well. I will send additional communication to Wauwatosa Montessori School stakeholders with updates.

Ms. Isa Herman is now the long-term sub in gym class. I am also excited to share that she is pursuing her license for this role! We are continuing our search for a Physical Education Teacher; however, Ms Isa is performing wonderfully in this role. As many of you know, she has her substitute license, her Bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurial Management, and is currently pursuing her Montessori teacher credential and is on track to graduate this year.

Check out the latest edition of the American Montessori Society Family Connection: March edition

Recipe Challenge for 4th and 5th Graders / Ms. Angie is willing to work with a student/student group if they bring her a recipe on March 10th

Fourth and fifth-graders are invited to compete in this year’s national Future Chefs competition by Sodexo! This fun event is intended to help educate kids in healthy eating habits.

To participate, students must submit a recipe card by Monday, March 10, 2025. Students may also request a printed recipe card from a Sodexo worker at their school.

Judges will then evaluate recipe submissions and narrow the number of finalists down to five students. Those finalists will be formally invited to a Culinary Competition Cook-Off on March 19, 2025, 5-7 p.m., at Wauwatosa West High School, 11400 Center St. All finalists will receive a participation medal, chef coat, apron, and hat.

Kitchen staff members also will be assigned to help student finalists to ensure safe food and preparation practices are followed. The local news media will be invited to take pictures of the kids’ creations, and parents and teachers can view (and taste!) the creations, too!

The winning recipe will be entered to win a national competition in April. Judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Kid-friendly
  • Ease of preparation
  • Healthy attributes
  • Plate presentation
  • Taste
  • Student Chef presentation to judges

For more information, please contact Sodexo General Manager Rob Perry at Robert.Perry@sodexo.com.

March PTSA Meeting

The next PTSA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the AP Room/Room 30 or on Zoom. Link to the virtual meeting will be sent out closer to the date. We are looking for new officers to fill open spots for next year: communications, treasurer, and fundraising co-chair. These roles can be shared or supported by last year’s officers as you learn.

Adult Trivia Night!

Adult Trivia Night is back! We will be taking over the Hoyt Park Grand Hall on April 4, 2025 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Set up a team of up to 8 parents, caregivers, and/or teachers for a fun night of testing your knowledge. Want to join a team to meet others? Let us know when you register and we can connect you with a team. Bring your own snacks and beverages of any style, though all beverages must be in plastic containers. Register online here. This event is a favorite for caregivers and teachers alike!

Funds raised will help support the Wauwatosa Montessori PTSA. The PTSA provides funding for field trip transportation, teacher supplies, teacher appreciation, maintaining the teacher lounge, and more to help provide our children with the best educational experience possible.

No babysitter for Trivia Night? Tosa Block Party!

Need something for your kids to do during trivia? A WMS parent also reached out to Tosa Block Party to set up a private event for WMS kids. April 4, 6:30-9:30PM. Limited spots available, but more information can be found on this flyer. Reach out to Tosa Block Party with questions or to register: 414-554-LEGO(5346) PlayWell@tosablockparty.com
